Just started!
The 12v TV in our van a 24" LED TV L24FE13 has dreadful audio and I want to 'cure' it by fitting an external speaker, probably passive wired.

Can anyone recommend a good speaker?

I use my JBL speaker for the tv. Bluetooth or wired, decent sound and battery lasts a fair while before needing recharged.

I now have a sound bar but previously have used, to very good effect and excellent value, a pair of computer desk stereo speakers, just needed 240v power supply and plugged into the earphone socket, cheap as chips & great sound quality.

I used Velcro pads to hang them upside down under the overhead cabinet & hid the cables in mini trunking covered with wood effect fall on to match the furniture 😜

If you have an Avtex and want a nicely integrated solution allowing you to use 1 remote, with much improved sound go for the Avtex soundbar. If you want much improved sound and good value for money, just get one of the many other soundbars.

You could get a soundbar or wire it to the van stereo.

As above we have a pair of PC speakers hung under the TV, £9.99 at Maplins years ago. Great sound.

We use a Bose Soundlink Mini.
It is connected to the Headphone out socket using a Belkin lead.
Can’t fault it.
You can also Bluetooth phones etc. to it for music.

I wired my TV sound to the head unit but that uses over 2 amps so when off grid which is most of the time we use an Ultimate Ears Boom 2, nice small portable speaker with very good sound and only takes a couple of amp hours to charge and lasts us up to a week on a charge.

Ann's got a Bluetooth earpiece which is very good but another option for a superb sound would be this little bluetooth/FM gadget..

Plugs into any cigar socket and the van stereo tunes into it 🔊🔊👌

How's the creative using AUX?
I have a Majority Atlas but it hums when the aux cable is plugged in. I can just get the volume high enough without hearing it too much but looking for an alternative.

We've got ours connected via a stereo audio 3.5mm jack plug to the headphone output from the TV (Ferguson 24" - same as Cello by a different name) and powered by a USB cable from a USB output on our Manhattan SX Freesat box however have also previously powered it from a USB output on the TV.
The soundbar also has a built in battery that lasts (at least) 4 hours hours.

You can also connect to it using Bluetooth however not tried that in earnest yet.

We have the volume turned up to near maximum on the soundbar and adjust the volume on the TV using it's remote.
No perceptible hum or crackling from the soundbar.

If you are thinking about getting one the best price I found at the time was direct from Creative (as per link above) however they are now selling via Amazon with a 10% discount bringing it down to £26.99!

I've used Creative stuff (in desktop pc's) for many years and always found them excellent hence the reason I went for this soundbar.
