We are going to spend January in Spain, leaving U.K. on 5th JanThis will be our first time so it’s all new. Is anyone around Benidorm or been before who can share the good / bad using Satellite/ data. I have a portable sat system and U.K a date sim with roaming but only 25gb when abroad.
Dont think I could be bothered to set up a VPN for how much we will use it,

Thanks Andy

Need a huge sat dish in Spain..metre plus.Firestick and lots of data easiest.BUSBY.

Firestick data usage can be 500mb-1gb per hour, so could eat your 25gb quick, best option would be local sim and VPN which I wouldn’t have thought would be much hassle to sort.

It’s 10 years ago since we used a dish in Spain so can’t help with that however if you are staying on a site then some sites have a tv point on the pitch. We will be at Imperium at Villajoyosa and they have a mixture of English, Dutch and Spanish channels. It’s maybe worth taking a cable with you just in case.

Lot of the Benidorm sites have plug in U.K. Tv , just the basic channels BBC, ITV . 4 & 5 more than enough

No time for TV you will be out in the sun enjoying yourself 🌞

You don’t necessarily need a huge dish for Spain. Search the forums for Intelsat.

I have a cheap (£35!) Gtmedia receiver that works well.

That's what someone told me in France earlier this year. Was hoping someone was sitting in Spain and could confirm.

As Manic says use a firestick (y)
I searched on here and it seems you need a paid for vpn. And looking at the various ones available they are yearly subscription.
Unless someone knows differently.

In the past we hooked up to a 1.5 mtr dish watching telly beamed down to Gibraltar, now we use a fire stick as it’s much less hassle.

Do you have a link to this?

What UK sim or do you use a VPN. If a VPN what do you use.

Thanks

I have used my firestick in France and Spain, without an vpn,and never had a problem. As long as you have a uk SIM card it works fine, well mine does (y)

I have a vodaphone sim in mifi, and 02 in my phone, which I also use the firestick off sometimes.

85+cm Dish pointing at Intelsat 27.5W with the correct sat receiver will give you the Setback service, BBC, 1,2, News, ITV, CH4 &5 + the radio stations as well. One of these works... so I am told. Unlimited viewing for no ongoing cost, since the B word roaming is expensive.

Just curious! We've not yet had our van over the channel. Here in the UK no matter where we go we've never had less than 100 channels on the TV using our Teleco directional aerial. Would such a set-up work in France or Spain, or do they have a different system with different frequencies?

It’s a bit cold at night in February, we never watch Tv when we are in France or Spain during the summer but really appreciated being able to watch it in November to February. Only so many times you can go out/play games.

Depending on your Tv you may get the local channels off the aerial (yes a different system and frequencies, hence it depends on your Tv) but no English stuff. Having said that... often the films broadcast have "version original" soundtracks transmitted alongside the dubbed ones. Selecting "audio" on your Tv handset may give you the option of "VO" or "English" along side the Spanish or French audio. A top tip for foreign viewing ... along with if the French stuff has a square or something in the top corner it may get a bit "raunchy". Been a while since I did some "research" on that so it may have changed.:blusher:::bigsmile:

Having used this system myself in Spain and Portugal and set it up last week for friends, I would recommend the following.

Firestick
If campsite wifi isn't good enough, a local unlimited data sim card (€30 for a month here in Portugal)
Weekly/monthly/annual subscription to www.teeveeing.com

No need for VPN, simple to use and cancel when necessary.

IF you are on a campsite they may have a TV system you can plug into which will give you a limited set of UK Channels
BUT for your own Sat system you need at least a 1.2m dish to get any signal at all
Streaming is your best option via a VPN

We will be in Villa Joiosa about 5 days before you

Sorry but not quite correct. A 85cm dish pointing at 28 East will get you quite a few UK channels including, Sky News, CNN etc and a load of Sky channels if you have a subscription and a Sky sat box. Same goes for Astra @19E, it also has a few English channels. BBC, ITV etc are on 28E but on a tight Spot beam for the UK, no signal past mid to South France ish.
Post 16 covers how to get the BBC etc on a 85cm dish in Spain.

Use a firestick

Get as much data as you can, roaming or domestic.

We have 1.4 metre dish on the side of the house and have lost BBC1 now. No big deal.

But slightest breeze and we lose many others.

Next doors dish is 1.9 metre

Yes, all of those plus more.
More info here.

I use the old faithful icecrypt s1600chd 👍🏻
Yep and me, with a spare already flashed in a locker, just in case  Cracking little receiver, takes up a tiny space, remote eye for control and runs perfectly on 12v so a win win.

There is no EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) available on any of the channels,
