Is it worth having a tv aerial as well as wifi?

Yes. As Neil S said. Mobile data is very poor in some areas in the country. You go to a site or field that is in a dip you will get nowt.
We have TV aerial, sat dish and wifi as signal strength in some areas of Scotland can be "suspect" at best! Mainly up North \ West but even in some locations close to Neil S .

Why not get a pole and aerial that you can attach to your ‘van when required……?

For example…….

Yes, we have an Avtex Ariel it does require to be powered as this boosts the signal and can be powered directly from an Avtex TV via its Ariel socket. Alternatively the aerial can be powered via a 12v adapter.

Also have an antenna Aligner app it’s all dead easy to set up and use.

Normally just poke the antenna out of the roof light whe we use it

If you normally use Internet for tv, I would just but a cheapie £15 amazon /ebay jobbie like we did, we normally use satellite but if too windy or blocked signal we just use the aeriel.

This is the sort of thing we have:
Chaowei DVB50 High Gain Freeview TV Aerial with Magnetic Base-Portable Indoor/Outdoor Digital Aerial for DVB-T Television/USB TV Tuner/4K/DAB Radio-6.5feet Coax Cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B087BVLT8H/?tag=mhf04-21

It shouldn't work, but has never let us down when needed, best £10 we ever spent...

That’s non amplified I’m sure you find it fine but in many remote area’s an amplified Ariel will give better results….just saying

For years we only had the TV in the motorhome. Later we bought a small DVD player for no tv reception areas.
Recently we decided WIFI on our travels would be a good idea when we were looking for stop overs and sites.

And it still works very well! It shouldn't but it does, maybe one day I might try an amplified one, but as a back up, it is perfectly good.

I think you may find you get a better spread (More) of channels as well, if on sites that may be in a dip and surrounded by trees we have found the boosted signal helps with reception. At home we have a masthead booster we gat some channels without it but around 133 ! with it but its a little like when Bruce springsteen sang 57 channels (and there's nothing on)

Hi, which app do you use?
Thanks

I downloaded this off the apple store, my Ariel is pointing to Sudbury, once you have chosen which transmitter you want you get the second screen that points you in the right direction. You can also see you get a better signal from ones further away than some of the closer transmitters due to the topography of the landscape, so is very useful when out and about.

No issues so far, have always got over 80 channels, it is an amazing little thing, but agree in week areas a booster may help, but not needed so far.

This is a sensible article about Signal boosters you don't need them in all situations but clearly they do work, my home one certainly works and the one in the Moho does as well but if the sites you visit do not need them then happy days.

how many times have experienced poor mobile coverage where the signal is weak , in a situation like that you have TV ariel to use as an alternative
Totally agree
If wifi is poor then the aerial may be good and if aerial signal is poor, the WiFi may be good so always good to have both IMO

After trying signal testers, aerial alignment apps etc and pretty much failing to get anything watchable, I this week removed the vision plus type aerial - and now have much more room in the wardrobe (y)

We haven't actually used a TV for a while as we have a monitor, Firestick and a roof mounted antenna for the WiFi.

If we can't get a signal, it's back to old skool and get a book out or play some tunes :LOL:

(That reminds me, I must get the Avtex TV up for sale :giggle:)
