Can you kind souls tell me what I need to watch English TV while travelling around Spain and Portugal. Is there anything out there that would just plug into my TV to enable this.
Thanks in advance

A Firestick with a vpn is the simplest solution , just search this forum for Firestick advice. Set your Firestick stick at home before you leave with apps for the tv channels that you watch
As above and you'll need a wifi/mifi conection for the firestick to connect to. Either a site's wifi, a mifi with a sim card in it or use your phone for a hotspot. Both of the latter will consume quite a bit of data if you are watching much tv. Make sure your sim card provider lets you use lots of data while abroad

Thanks for reply, where do I get the firestick & does it have the VPN already on it
You can get an Amazon firestick from Amazon or several other outlets- Argos for instance. You'll need to subscribe and pay for a VPN and they are not loaded by default on a new firestick

I use the same fire stick that I use at home. Fortunately I have unlimited data on my I phone or use a Spanish sim in a spare phone.

The Amazon firestick offers an app for Express VPN which works very well, you can pay monthly and stop when you return home. You can connect all your devices on one subscription. Could use your phone as a hotspot instead of a router. You need over 7 mbs to get reasonable TV, set the screen to low resolution (720) to improve play and reduce buffering. Oh and you need an HDMI and USB socket on your TV to run the firestick.

To reduce data consumption on the firestick. Go to settings / audio visual / video resolution and select 720.

Just in case you don't know...... You need ...

Internet - usually Mifi device or hot spot off your phone.
Fire stick - linked to your internet device and download suitable apps like iPlayer or ITVX etc...
VPN - software app that scrambles your location otherwise iPlayer won't work outside UK etc .....

Just to make it clear that the VPN is not needed if you are using a UK SIM.

I have a fire stick without a VPN and I hotspot from my mobile phone . I watch all the uk streaming services , net flux and Amazon, Disney , and others ;-) . I sometimes get some lagging but have never been unable to watch uk tv . My monthly phone bill ranges from £18 to £20 regardless and I take the same fire stick with me if we fly and stay in hotels (in fact just come back from Malta ) with no issues .

You may find that if you get a mobile router with a UK sim in it you may not need a VPN. We have a IQ sim in a ZTE 5G router and were able to watch BBC etc. in Europe last year without a VPN.

If you have a regular UK SIM you'll probably struggle to get more than about 15hrs TV via a Fire stick for your whole trip abroad due to fair usage limits when roaming.

Just back from 61 day trip of Portugal and Spain using our firestick and mobile data, no need for vpn as it’s a U.K. sim and we watched about 10 games of football along with catchup tv. We both have unlimited ID sim at £18pcm and no issues getting signals.

Not mine :-) . Have been using it for 2-3 years and never gone over my monthly bill (unless I text or something )

ID mobile have an offer on at the moment where you can use all your data abroad. Worked well for us before Christmas.

I’ve just looked on their website and it says limited to 30GB.
Yes, it’s said that all along, but I confirmed on chat before I registered in October. No idea why they don’t change it on their webpage, but worth asking on chat?

Started using IDmobile in 2022 , all my moho TV , streaming radio , sat nav goes via the hotspot and I’ve never paid more than the contract . Wish I could tell you how much data I’ve used but can’t seem to find any stats though the current period (whatever that is ) is over 900gb
