We are going to buy turtle mats to go in our van. There are two different types of backing, smooth latex and the other type is lightly studded multi grip made from rubber.
Does anyone have the lightly studded multi grip type, wondered if it made indentations on the floor. We have a vinyl floor.
Thanks everyone.
Kind regards
Mike and Pam

We use Dunelm's "Marvel" mats in our MH which have a rubber raised pattern backing and these leave no marks.

Thank you Two on Tour. We have Marvel mats now but decided to try something different. We have washed them several times and they are still shedding. They also shrank a lot in the wash at 30 degrees so don't fit anymore but that was our fault as we cut them and washed them. We didn't tumble dry them but dried flat outside.Next time we will read the instructions and wash BEFORE we cut and fit.
Kind regards
Pam

The Turtle mats are the same as other 'cotton twill' mats so I wouldn't waste my money on the Turtle branded version, The Range, B&Q etc do some excellent mats of the same quality but for a lot less dosh. We've used the alternatives for years and never had any problems.

Turtle mats in our van, and they are far better than any other mats we had, and worth the money. Ours don’t shed after the first wash and didn’t shrink.
The dimples on the bottom don’t leave permanent marks on the vinyl

Thanks very much everyone for your replies, much appreciated.

We found that Hug Rugs did an even better range of sizes, particularly as we wanted long and thin. Superb quality made in Scotland and yes, dimples. No marks on vinyl as yet!

Oh boy do they shrink, had ours in the van 5 years washed every year, also the backing was starting to fall apart and they were slipping on the floor.

But replaced them with Marvel mats again as the van is being traded next year and Turtle were a lot more expensive.
Washed them first this time and will use a steam cleaner on then instead of throwing them in the washing machine.

Yep, ditto. I have a large Turtle mat in my van and it’s not left any marks, and has washed well, after at least five years ownership. When washed it comes up as new. I’d buy another without hesitation. In fact I already have, getting one for the house too.

We have the turtle mats brilliant stuff must have washed them at least half a dozen times 30 degrees and no fabric softener they come out like new every time.

I will check and let you know

Never had an issue with the turtle mats and ours have not shrunk 30 degrees no fabric softener and don’t put them in a tumble dryer. Maybe you could have contacted Turtle 🐢 if they went faulty.

I noticed Turtle mats have a rubber boarder, can you still cut them to fit and do away with the edging. Thinking about them for the new van.

I was talking about Marvel mats, see the post I quoted.

Yes ... but ... depending on how thin the backing is now they may 'curl' at the edges if they can't hold their flatness, you have to watch this with some of the cheaper ones too but if you're butting them up to furniture etc then this isn't such an issue as you don't catch the edges with your clod-hoppers.

I've just fitted a nice large 'twill' mat in the MH shower - we got the mat for £2 from a market stall chap who gets loads of different types of mats but not often ones large enough for the shower so we snaffled it up!

No curling on our Turtle mats 4 years in and still looking like new 👍 not cheap but they are robust.

Yes you can a nice sharp knife and you can trim them around the MoHo furniture, the fibres around the edge all stay in place

I loved our turtle mats in the mh. Had 3, two cut to contour around kitchen and one large one for sitting area. They didn’t mark the floor. Washed after each use of mh. Well maybe not in dry summer and away for a cpl days. Caught all crap coming in. I also tumble dried as this restored the pile. I did replace after about 6 years as pile was starting to get a bit thin. However they are re utilised in the garage at home.
