Just wondering if anyone has used this car park recently for day parking. I am going to the football on Saturday and then on to the tunnel. At the moment I am driving to Cambridge (South Lincolnshire) in the car, back to South Lincs and then back to the tunnel as soon as I drop the car off at home. Clearly daft if it can at all be avoided. I wrote to Cambridge council and their reply was ambiguous, talked about a 2.1m height barrier, with a manned barrier for John Lewis. I cant risk taking the van there, not getting in and missing the football, hence my question, or indeed if you have securely left your van elsewhere in Cambridge for the day. Hoping a member has been there recently

As far as I know from research is that you can't use the Trumpington park and ride with non standard vehicles any more. You used to be able to ask them and they opened a height barrier but not anymore.

Many thanks for the quick response, much appreciated, and seems to be the gist of the council's response, at least it puts that idea to bed. Looks like a busy day for me, nothing unusual there!

What about staying at one of the club sites which have good bus services? I think from the C&CC one you can walk to the football stadium.

Its a good idea, might give them a call to see if they have any flexibility within their rules. Football starts at 12.30 instead of 3.00 (vs Peterborough, my team, due to a strong history of violence breaking out if the fans spend too long in the pub) and check in is 1.00, so no good on the face of it, and then of course I will be gone after the game so it all depends upon whether they let you just park on site for a few hours, it would certainly save 130 mile round trip to go back to collect the van after the football

Ah that's a pity what about the other one they are open all year i think?

There was a thread about “VanLifers” using an app to get parking at supermarkets for longer than their usually permitted couple of hours. Is there anything possible in the area?

I think there is another carpark north Cambridge that is not council owned that allows taller vehicle from memory

I think you mean the one by the American Cemetery. Not used it lately but they used to have MH parking, so worth an enquiry? 🤔

PS. There used to be a reliable every 30minute bus service from St Neots, so might be worth seeing if the C&CC site there is open?

I've parked in the trumpington p&r before, if you follow the signs for John lewis, they will let you through the barrier.

11th April too but that's a nice site.

Yes, there is a Sainsbury’s in walking distance I have used mid week, however, on a Saturday it’s rammed and you need to keep within one space, you get everyone banging their doors against the van getting out their cars

I believe the only Cambridge p&r that might allow a motorhome is Madingley road. I would definitely check before travelling. Alternatively I would suggest parking near to bar hill Tesco’s by the post office and then get bus into the city it runs every 20 minutes £2 each way. Message me if you want more information.

i think you can overnight at milton country park and catch a bus into town alternatively maybe park on science park and bus in

not sure about st ives carpark for the guided busway, cant remember any height barriers but its a long time since i have been there

Trumpington P&R does have barriers for high vehicles, but I've only ever used the John Lewis barrier for Sunday car boot fairs so can't really say how it operates 'normally'.

However, there's an industrial estate on Newmarket road where you'll find B&Q - or further along to Currys where a lot of people park for the football. 15 min walk to the stadium. Alternatively there's Tesco on Cheddar's Lane / Newmarket Rd which is a similar walk.

Worst case scenario I can give you co-ordinates for free parking for pretty much any MoHo a little further out (fine for overnight and opposite a Nisa) but it would be a £10 taxi fare each way (happy to give you a lift if I'm around - but no promises!)

Can I ask how recently because this would be the perfect solution
It was last May, so a while ago, there were 3 or 4 other vans there as well, they have a number on their website, so give them a call.

That is really kind. Pretty sure I’m sorted now at Trumpington, thanks again
