Autotrail Chyenne
Hi,
There have probably been plenty of questions on this, however - we are new to motorhoming having bought a 25 year old Autotrail Cheyenne (Fiat Ducato).
We are currently on a site and the heater is only blowing cold - it's not the warmest weather Lol, we tried it when we first bought it and it was fine then, but that was in the summer!!!
What I can tell you is there's a booklet for Truma S 3002 P / S 3002 / S 5002 - not sure which ours is!
There is a Truma thermostat on the wall and a Carver switch - not sure what the Carver thing is, but tried switching that on too!
The front cover doesn't come off from what we can see as there are two screws that keep it in place.
Any help gratefully received!

Given your battery voltage is less than13 volts, are you on mains hook up. The element side will only run from the 240 input. If you are on ehu I would expect your battery voltage indicator should be reading higher.

your carver cascade runs on gas from the controls in your picture and there should be a separate switch with an indicator light if it has a mains element?

Agree with above, check for something tripped if you know you are hooked up, either pillar tripped or your own trip switches 👍

Try it on gas. Hold down the knob and press the igniter until you see pilot through the window to the right hold for 30 seconds release and turn

Did you resolve this, cold here, the boiler in our house lost pressure and shut down overnight , wouldn’t want to be in a motorhome with no heating

Not resolved yet, we are on EHU so not sure why the voltage is slightly lower than it should be.
I’ll check the fuse box today in the light to see if anything has tripped and report back - it was a cold night!!

That heater may be a gas only heater with an electric fan.
Have you tried it on gas?
Turn the dial to No 3 and then push down on the dial to engage the igniter.

Some of those heaters have two AA batteries to power the igniter and you have to take off the cover for access.

I hope you get it going 😊

It worked on electric before and I can’t take the front off to replace the batteries. 🙄

So voltage is up to 15 now and it’s still blowing cold air only. Checked the trip switches and all are fine!

You need to remove the 2 screws you can see on the heater , then pull the top towards you. This will reveal 2 wire spring retainers , push these down to release the cover . Be careful of any wire connections to the thermostat and the rod for the gas dial. The wires will be low voltage. There should be a black box at the bottom for the batteries ( 2 x AA I think) if it is electronic ignition for the gas. The mains side is notorious for the relays to fail. They can be replaced with more robust ones . This is a soldering job, can be done DIY if you have the gear

The top of the heater shows a circular control on the left, this appears to be the fan control. The control on the right, the low level one, appears to be the gas control switch. Unless the vertical cylindrical thing on the far right has a label saying TRUMA Ultraheat 240V on the top, I suspect the heater is only a gas heater, This is quite common. My Autocruise only had a gas heater until I modified it by installing a heater element. Hope this helps.

Managed to get the cover off - no sign of a battery compartment that can see

We’ve had it running on electric before though.

Look behind the heater there should be a cable with a kettle type plug on the end . check this is plugged in and not worked loose or been pulled out.
if ok follow the cable , which should go to a switched spur or a socket. This should be ok as you have a green light on the controller

If it is working OK on gas I expect the electric element has failed. New element about £100 if you do it yourself.
They work far better on gas and cheaper to run on gas.
