Autotrail Apache 634
Hi, I rarely use our Truma Heater on electric and tried it today and it is not working. Its a Truma S5004 installed in a 2014 Autotrail Apache 634.

Works great on gas.

I have attached a few photos to provide more clarity.

I have EHU and at the main control panel, the 'heater' rocker switch is illuminated. On the remote Trauma control panel (above the cab door); its set at 500, 1000 or 2000 watts. The central knob rotates from 1 to 9. Set it on 2000 watts and number 9; all looks good as the green LED is on. On the Trauma heater I set the fan, I then wait 10 minutes but there is no heat. The fan is running.

I removed the front cover from The Truma heater and can see two electric heater elements, from what I can see they have not split and I see no visual damage.
  • Firstly can anyone please confirm its not user error and I have gone through the correct sequence for normal operation! Its been a while since I used it!!
  • If I am using it right, then are there any checks I can carry out to see if I can get it going/simple repair? I appreciate I can use gas or carry a plug in space heater but it would be good to have the Truma electric system working.
Thanks for your help!
Kind Regards
Rob

Hi, in my Cheyenne there are 2 switches in the wardrobe above my heater, look like domestic light switches, for local isolation?, there's 1 for water heater and one for heating.

Yes that's the correct sequence. The fan runs off the 12v so is separate but the little green led implies that the mains power is on. Always worth checking though, that the isolating switch is on and that the heater RCD/mcb hasn't tripped in your distribution board.

We have the same Trauma in our Apache 634, ours the same as yours stopped working on electric but would work on gas.
We ended up replacing this part from "Apuljack Engineering" part number (AE-P-HE-00005)
I have looked on their website but can't locate this part now, we changed it a few years ago.
Their phone number is 01278 588922.
Good luck.

Just to note... they can be really slow to heat the water. I'd leave it an hour and check again.

Have you got a smart meter in the house so you can see if it's really sucking 2kw?

Hi Guys, thanks for your replies. The MCB has not tripped out, I have not found any additional switches. Prior to this you could feel heat within 5 to 10 mins when it was used. When turning the Truma on to any of the heat settings 500, 1000 or 2000 watts I can hear a click within the heater.

Rob n Chris - did you replace the part yourself?

Thanks Rob

Have you tried leaving the fan off?
I have a similar system (older) than yours, and from instructions ive seen say, to leave the fan off until the heater warms up, as you are cooling the fire before it gets a chance to warm up?
