Truma frost control valve leaking

If the temperature get down to around three degrees check that the valve has actually dumped.

We've drained it down manually :)

We have also had replies from the manufacturer and the dealer. The manufacturer says they are investigating (Adria) and the dealer (Geoff Cox) says they will keep up pressure on the manufacturer. It is out of warranty so they could just wash their hands :)

Just reset it now and then when we have a cold night check to see if it has worked, at least you will know if it is still doing it’s job.

Thanks for keeping us updated with the outcome. Really pleased you got it sorted. Sounds like a real find does Mill Garage. £54 for an hour's labour! Twice that up here.

We are in the Scottish Borders. If you have a problem it would cost you less than that in fuel to get up here - and there is space on our drive for overnighters :)

What a generous offer! Thank you.

@Puddleduck - where is Mill Garage and are they motorhome dealers? Sounds like they know what they are doing and a good find. We need recommendations like this. I understand people have been similarly impressed with Adventure Leisure at Tebay.

Strangely, I was looking at our Whale pump and, concerned that it might be faulty, am going to buy a replacement for taking with us. Sod's Law means that there is a new model Whale pump but it appears that it will simply fit the existing pipes which seem to be the same push and lock type connections that you had trouble with. I was wondering how they undo and do up. At least in our case, the space issues you had with the boiler aren't present. What I may do next time I go to the van (it's in storage for 6 weeks or so) is try and unlock the pipes so that I can familiarise myself with the push fit connectors.

They are in Duns, Scottish Borders. They actually do panel van conversions and have been featured in a few magazines. If I wanted a custom pvc I would use them as they are great people to deal with.

It's a family firm with a really good reputation. If you use them they will ask for some details from you as recently they had someone leave without paying, £800 down for a day's work and parts :(

hope the link works as my internet connection isn't too clever today

Can't help you with the pump as ours is a submersible Reich and sits in the cold water tank. We do carry a spare though.

The connectors are dead easy to fasten and unfasten as long as you have room to get in :) excuse my (non) technical explanation! There is the connection which is the fat bit into which the pipe goes in and comes out...... where the pipe goes in is a collar or a collet, sometimes in a different colour. If you push the collar towards the connector (the fat bit) you can release the pipe. To put the pipe back in push the collar back towards the connector and refit the pipe then release the collar. There are tools available to push on the collar if you have fat or wimpy fingers :)

It seems that quite a few people carry spare water pumps and I can see why. If your pump fails one of the main features of a mobile home/campervan is useless.
I don't think I will have a problem fitting the pump if required so long as I can fathom out the connectors. On an earlier post, someone confirmed that the new model pump is a direct fit. Just unclip the tubes, unclick the electrical connector and replace with the new pump and reconnect.
Ah well, that's the theory. Dare say, when sitting in Spain, in freezing rain, no water for the kettle or heating I'll find some problem! :)

Buy a couple of connectors & a scrap of pipe from an accessory shop. Much easier to practice than have it described. It really is very easy to do. If you have room to do it of course :).

@tonyidle-really good idea.

Have got the pump on order (£108). It's a Whale aquasmart fp0184 which replaces the fitted pump. So when I get the connectors and piece of pipe, can have many dry runs (no intended pun) of the connectors!

Just looking at our failed pump (the one on the van works and we have a spare) and there are two wires and a tube at the top.

I didn't replace the broken one, Martin did but from what I remember it took me longer to take the cushions off the seat above the tank than it did for him to replace it. There is good access to our fresh water tank which helps :)

If I had to do it I would make sure everything was switched off :) and then replace one bit at a time, old blue wire disconected, new blue wire connected. Old brown wire disconnected, new brown wire connected and finally old pipe off (whether a push fit or tube and jubilee) and new pipe on. :)

The next generation of the pump that is on ours has two pumps - in case one fails which fills me with confidence!

@Puddleduck-that's what I'm really hoping for; that it's simply a question of unscrewing the old pump (when/if it fails) and connecting up the new one.

Final update!!!

Adria have refunded the cost of repairs :) We didn't ask for any monetary compensation as the van is out of warranty, we just wanted to alert both Adria and the dealer to the issue.

Okay it was a manufacturing fault but one that did not give problems until recently and may never have caused an issue - it could well be that our van just happened to be one where placement tolerances of the various components were just too much at extreme margins. It happens.

Full marks to both Adria and Geoff Cox for their customer service in sorting things out :) even when a third party repair was done.

Had nothing but trouble with mine so I just remove them. I've managed for 35 years without this problematic toy.
