Hello everyone. We've got a Truma gas / leccy heater and have noticed that when it's on (16deg), the left side (facing the front) of the fixed rear beds in our Hymer ML-T with twin beds gets really warm. To the point where the mattress is really warm and the metal side panel with vents is like a hot radiator to touch. The other side of the bed doesn't seem to have any hot air blowing up at all.

Is this, erm, normal?!

Sounds like you will need to investigate more, remove all mattresses, you may find that too many holes have been placed on the hot side heat pipe, or the paper type tube has been crushed or restricted in some way to stop the heat going over to the RHS.
You can always encourage more heat by restricting the holes in the hot side to force heat arround to the colder side, as the heat will always take the easier less restricted route to escape.
I am sure all will become evident once you have a clear view of the paper pipe layout/install.
PS: Ours is fine on our Carthago, but a flattened pipe could occur on any van.
Good Luck.

Yes. The side nearer the boiler gets the warm air first but by the time it gets round the other side it has cooled off. On my Hymer the boiler was on the left and the left bed got warm on my Carthago the boiler is on the right and the right bed gets warm.

Thank you both for your replies!

We will investigate further. My side of the bed is incredibly hot, I can't touch the panel with holes in as it's just too hot. It can't be good for the mattress to get so hot, can it?!

No definitely not good, as said prev, see if you can suss out the pipe run, even alter it if needed, you will get a better more evenly spread result from there.

Where is the heater fitted.?
In our Hymer it's ouder the lounge sofa and if it's on full blast the backrest buy the window gets too hot to sit against. No heater vents there it's just convection from where the boiler is mounted with the hot air rising in the gap behind the seat.

Thanks Lenny, it's fitted under the left hand twin bed. We're going to have a rummage around today to see if there are any flattened pipes.

We had 2017 Dethleffs Globus with a 6e under the rear double bed, first time out the bed got unbearable hot, lifted the mattress and there was a 3 inch pipe straight off the heater a pipe run of about 18 inches , and at the other end of the bed a 1.5 inch pipe off the heater pipe circuit, neither had any method of restricting the airflow.
I made a couple of restrictors using the top end of milk containers, to avoid being barbecued.

Thank you for this insight, extremely helpful! Will try the same as it sounds like we have exactly the same issue.
