Hi Guys

I have a chausson alegro 94. The truma combi boiler fitted to the motorhome has only one switch to control the heating and water. I have looked at videos on line and there are 2 switches. I do not seem to have one that controls the source, ie gas or electric so how do I know what its using. Can anyone please advise. thanks

This is a video I have been watching. I have only the bottom switch and can not find the top switch in the motorhome. So how do I select the source?.

Have a look at the wiring at the boiler, if there is no 240v, then it is gas only.
Cheers

There's a lot to be said for a simpler heating control panel with some clearly labelled switches and a separate temperature dial.

Truma, are you listening?

Thanks guys for the advice. I will take a look at your suggestions. The thing that confused was that my leisure battery packed in when not on an EHU. (battery is knackered so buying another). I had the heating and water on and when the battery died, the heating and boiler went off. I thought it was because the boiler was working from the battery which in my mind explained why it did not last long. So of course if it is gas only, why does the boiler stop when the battery packed in?. cheers guys

Most boiler control circuit(s) need electrical power.

The confusing Truma controls is a well known issue. They use the flame sign to mean different things- never a good thing! In our van, the controls are reversed to the diagrams in the manual. The top switch in the manual is actually the lower switch on the van.
Have a look in the Resources tab of this site. There is a good diagram explaining all.

The boiler needs electricity to operate the combustion fan and possibly a blown air fan, even if the fuel source is gas only.

Of course, that makes sense now. Think it was the fact that the battery packed up just after 10 mins made me think the boiler was running off the battery but i checked the battery and the cells were bone dry, something I should have checked when I bought the motorhome a few months before of course!! but I was under the impression they included a new leisure battery, thats what they said but as I have come to learn. What salesmen tell you and what they do is a world apart!!!. Thanks very much to everyone for your response. Great advice, most appreciated.

Just for anyone else reading this thread.

The Truma electric heating(if fitted) does not work from the battery - only from mains EHU. It would flatten a 12v battery system in short order.

And the distiction provides what information?

@nicholsong ... No offence meant ...

I just read it as ... “does not” may be construde as it “could” do but does not - in [your situation] ... whereas will not is a definite.. for all cases
:)

It wasn’t a critism of your wordage... just meant to be more of a clarifyier for others who may have “read” as I did...

Could be diesel heater only on Chausson ?

very possibly. our pal has a Chasson Flash 04 and it has diesel Truma heating - so these are power hungry and if the battery was flattened during running, that would explain the loss of heating and hot water and the lack of a 240V mains heating (there is a D6 (no 240v heater) version and a D6(E) (with 240v heater) version of the diesel heater - so it is possible you only have the D6 heater.

All Allegro's were mostly fitted with the Combi 6E and usually have two control knobs on the panel above the transverse double. One to select the energy source and the other for HW, heating or a combination of both. The latter setting defaults to 230v EHU only which consumes a lot of power on the higher setting, around 8 amps.

The unit also has two 10a fuses, the one under the connector panel is for 12v the lower is for 230v. Maybe worth having a look at those too?

Yozzer there are the odd few '94's with just the Ultrastore water heater with separate diesel fueled 12v powered Webasto (re badged Eberspacher) warm air heater.
