Fiat Ducato Van
We are in the USA with a 2022 Ducato. It’s been plain sailing for the last 4 months, until we needed to change our oil. After a lot of trouble getting a filter from a UK fiat dealership, we got the job done. However it reported Service Engine Check oil with a red oil can icon. The garage definitely put in 6L (or 6.5 US Quarts). The message went off after an hours drive, an hour later it’s back on! Any thoughts before we try to contact Fiat?

Hi and welcome…

Did the garage reset the service indicator..? Or if the oil warning light came on it may take a OBD to reset it…
There are videos on YouTube on “how to reset oil schedule light” which involves turning off and on while pushing brake peddles and all manner of things, specific to any vehicle…

More people with answers will be along in the morning when there up…🙂

Does it come only you are driving or when you're parked up ? Have you got a dipstick to physically check the level ?
Sometimes, if you're parked on a slope, the engine can think it's low on oil and especially after a service with filter change, the required refill sometimes doesn't take into account the extra amount of oil you "lose" on start up that's required to fill the filter element ?
Do a Google search for the location of the oil level sensor and check that they haven't disturbed the plug on that during the service ?

Your van is a Dodge Ram in the U.S. so bits should be commonly available.
Sometimes a reset through the OBD port is required to tell the ECU that everything is O.K.

I think I am talking about the same thing .
If you have a red oil can and the message Oil Change required or similar - I have just been suprised by it. But on an older Ducato.

To reset the warning light. Start with ignition off. Ignition on, fully press accelerator, press brake pedal seven times, wait one minute, release accelerator pedal, switch ignition off, wait one minute, continue as normal.

It sounds like a joke but hunt town the Youtube video and there it is. It works.

+1. Also works for the resetting the " service required" notification, but not for " service coupons have expired".

Thanks everyone. It is the same chassis as a Ram ProMaster, however they only have a petrol engine in the van or a massive 6L diesel on their flatbed trucks. We have already reset the Change Oil notification, so sadly it’s not that. Chat GPT says it may be oil pressure related? I will put a bit more oil in today and see if it behaves, if not then it looks like a trip to a dealer.

I bet the mechanic's done something daft like left the plastic wrapper on the filter !

I think a couple of year’s ago on this forum there was some discussion on the wrong dip stick had been fitted to a Decato assuming you are checking level with a dipstick.

Hi we're in Fairview Riverside State Park just over Lake Pontchartrain Bridge from New Orleans for a couple
of days then another near by and onto New Orleans French Quarter RV park for 5 days of Mardi Gras.
We've been over here since May 2023 and van goes back 18th April 2024.

Presuming an oil change was due then the service warning light will come on.
They do not have necessary Fiat Diesel diagnostic/reset tools in the USA as the Ducato Diesel is not a vehicle
sold in USA. Promasters (Imported rebadged Ducato) have petrol Dodge/RAM engines.
Just check the oil level every so often to be sure, we seem to need to top it up occasionally but went through so
very hot weather.

We had oil change @ 26k (Bought 3 filters over with us) and service warning light came on at due mileage 30k went off @
40k ish, not sure if it just gave up or one of the Youtube do this that and the other things worked.
Just about to pass next 30k and waiting to see if the light comes on.
We have an OBD2 reader but did not want to see if that would clear it as there was no issue with it being on.

We have 21 Kon-Tiki 599 Sport
Just coming up on 58k total 50k here in USA/Canada since May.
Gone through 1 set of front pads (Bought 2 complete sets with us) and 6 tyres so far.

Mike.
The Promaster body may be an imported/rebadged Ducato BUT not the engine all Dodge/RAM petrol no diesels.
Body wise Promaster only got the facelift, flat wider lights etc in 2023, introduced in Europe 2017 or so.

this is frustrating, put some more oil in and now it’s happy! But the error was different to the low oil message a few months ago. Oh well we are heading to Canada later this month so hoping we can find a fiat facing technician there, but I won’t hold me breath!
