Hi, we are a retired couple, new to this forum and will be sailing to Santander in late May for four weeks in our 7m. Burstner with no pets.we intend travelling West along the Northern Spanish coast, then South along the western Spanish Coast down to Portugal and possibly a return visit to San Sabastian prior to sailing back. Previously we have caravanned and Mo/Ho through France,Spain,Germany,Italy etc. but never this route.
Can anybody recommend any good sites along this route and/or places to avoid

just hug the coast as much as you can.
sensible parking and no mess outside is the way.
mind there are sites but i dont use them.
some roads to the coast are dead end roads but there are alot of nice places to see.
you might not even get anywhere near portugal just slowly hug the coast its great fun.

Head up to the coast at Mundaka;

A beautifil little village with a surfing history;

There is a campsite;

One of the best Spanish village fiestas I've been to.

You can follow the coast road to Bilboa, nice villages and coastal views, a retired nuclear power station.

A short distance before Bilboa is Sopela or Sopelena;

There is a large cliff top parking area where I have often Wild Camped without issues, but that was some years ago. Heading westward on the coastal path, you can walk up the the WW11 bunker and onwards around the headland to the next village. The west beach was a nudist beach.

There is a campsite on the coast road to the east.

Another suggestion.

From Bilbao

Head south in the direction of Amurrio;

In Amurrio provision and fuel.

From Amurrio keep heading south to Orduna;

Now the climb up the mountain to the Puerto de Orduna;

You'll get a good workout on the steering wheel but it's not hard. After you pass the top there is a track to the right that leads to a mirador and plenty of Wild Camping opportunities.

If you follow the main road south, after a few Kms there is a left turn into the Parc Naturel;

As you drive into the Parc, follow the track until it forks, both are dead ends but both worth exploring. I prefer the right fork that ends at what I always called Vulture Gulley, again a place that I have Wild Camped.

The Griffon Vultures live on the rock face but do not usually fly until the sun shies on the face.

In writing this I have discovered that I've written it all before on a similar thread!

Hope this is of interest.
