We have two dogs with EU passport issued in Spain. To attend a wedding we are hoping to travel from Pembroke to Rosslare and then a week later from Rosslare to Bilbao ( ferry booked). We have just realised to enter Rosslare our dogs have to meet the regulation of tapeworm treatment in the 5 day-24 hour period before arrival. How do we achieve this when we understand a UK vet cannot write in an EU passport. Have any funsters encountered this dilemma.

A uk vet can administer and record worming but not rabies.

I'm pretty sure a UK vet can't make any entries in EU pp whatsoever.
As phill d says, worming shouldn't be necessary to enter ROI

It is stated on the Irish ferries website and after some research it appears that tapeworm documentation required into Rosslare. Will call Irish ferries and Heathrow vet tomorrow to get some form of clarification and will follow on this thread to let you know what they say. We were hoping to get the ferry Wednesday but given its Bank holiday tomorrow May have to put back by a day.
Appreciate everyone’s comments and this useful platform for advice.

You don’t need to worm a dog to travel to mainland Europe so why do you need it to Ireland?

Are you sure it’s needed
You need it to travel to Ireland because Ireland does not have the particular tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis) that the worming treatment guards against. Nor does Finland, Malta or Norway which is why they are the other countries that require tapeworm treatment. Of course we (in GB) don't have this particular tapeworm either but since Br*x*t we are no longer classed as E. multilocularis free because we no longer submit our monitoring of the red fox population to the EU.

No, Phill D is correct that a UK vet can enter worming treatment in an EU Pet Passport, along with a clinical examination if required, but that is all they can enter.

If you travelled to Ireland with an AHC no worming is required so I don’t see why it’s required for a EU pet passport.
Where do you get this from please? I've never used an AHC but I don't see why no worming would be required if you have one.

You are correct that tapeworm treatment is required to enter Ireland.

Good luck with getting your dogs' tapeworm treatment in time.

I took my 3 to and from Ireland last year and neither Belfast or Dublin looked at pet passports.

I wasn't aware they needed wormed for Ireland so mine were not done

It is not required to enter Northern Ireland because checks are currently suspended and, at some point, the Windsor Framework will be implemented.

Title of post says ‘Southern Ireland’ yet everyone is posting about Northern Ireland!

No, they're not! The first one to mention Northern Ireland was Northernraider (Belfast) and I replied to that point. Everything else in this thread concerns the Republic of Ireland.

There is no Southern Ireland as such. Just Ireland and Northern Ireland which is part of UK. I think Northern Ireland is mentioned as you don't need worming, AHC or passport to enter and you can then freely travel into Ireland as there are no border checks. If going on the route UK to Ireland then checks are implemented how thorough or how often I cannot say as I always use the NI routes.

Umm if we're gonna be pedantic Ireland is the whole 32 counties, so not "only Ireland" but in fact the Republic of Ireland.
