We would like to get a ferry to Northern Cyprus from Turkey and then travel to Southern Cyprus. I have seen that there may be issues at the border travelling from North to South. Has anyone travelled this route or have any experience regarding this?

Advice appreciated please?

carolyn may be able to help but I know they went with a group where the leader did most of the difficult bits

Are you planning to travel in your motorhome? If so, check your vehicle insurance as most do not cover the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). I think you may have some problems taking a vehicle over the border to the south, but have done this previously by car with a resident (retired British) living in the TRNC.

Advisable to avoid getting your Passport stamped when entering the TRNC. If you ask, they will (or used to) stamp a separate paper for your visa. Unless it has changed the TRNC visa costs 10 Euros and lasts for 90 days. (The one you will have bought when entering Turkey does not cover the TRNC.) The reason for avoiding getting a TRNC stamp in your passport is to avoid any difficulties when re-entering Greece!

Over-wintered for 6 months in the sail boat (we had then…. before Motorhoming!) en route to Lebanon and Syria. Regrettably the the chaos started the following year, we never made it and had to return to mainland Turkey.

Travelling between the North and South is now quite straightforward but slow as long as you don’t lose the paperwork you get on arrival in Northern Cyprus. That’s the Import paper and the KKTC insurance you have to pay for. I think it was about £25. When you cross into the South make sure they give you the Import paper back or you will be stuffed.

There is only one crossing that you can go across in a Motorhome and that’s in Nicosia. Don’t believe anyone who tells you otherwise.

One thing. Make sure the ferry tickets are in the same name as the V5 , ours weren’t. Fortunately we were on an organised tour and one of the tour leaders is Turkish. Sorting it out involved a lot of shouting on her part! I seemed to be the only one who was worried though. I think it was just the way of things but I was glad she was in charge and not me.

I would really like to take my MH to Cyprus but I, like all governments in the world, do not recognise TRNC and will not pass through it, even though I have happy memories of Kyrenia, Bellapais (Bitter Lemons - Lawrence Durrel), and the beautiful beaches east along the coast from there, especially a wonderful lunch at '5 1/2 mile beach' taverna with a stunning Swedish model from Beirut. Also lunches in the police canteen next to the castle in Kyrenia.

Hopefully the Piraeus-Limassol ferry link will be restored, as projected. If so, I hope it is with a ship that can accommodate 3m high MHs.

The ferry is running again mostly funded by EU grant but only in the summer. June to sept I seem to remember.
Just consider you will get burnt to a crisp over those months.

It’s only for cars and Motorhomes up to 5metres! Even our first little old Autosleeper symbol was longer than that.

Like my Bergen-Newcastle and Norwegian coast plans it has been crushed. Also Adriatic crossing no longer has camping on deck, but we can still get to Greece.
