There's The Easy Way or The Hard Way !

Easy, Portsmouth - Bilbao/Santander.

Hard - Dover Calais.

The direct ferry looks pretty expensive but when you take stops/time/running costs there's little in it. If you want to Get There, it's the way to do it.

Once around Santander by any route the rest of Spain can be reached with one overnight. Roads are excellent, tolls quite reasonable but easily avoided.

It's an amazing country, full of sights you'll not get elsewhere, from lunar landscapes to delicate Moorish buildings. And if you want it, British Fish 'n' Chips.

Was thinking of doing Spain/Italy across to Bulgaria in Sept/October - is thisthe high season over there at that time?
