Hi i need some input for our trip to Spain. We are going to the Granada aera in spain and want to visit Alhambra and Sierra Navarda and do some walking, so i am looking for input for the route down there for those intrepid people out there that have done a similar route. Our travel dates are 7th may to 14th June can anyone recommend any good campsites.

Are you taking the big boat or travelling through France?

You need to book the Alhambra (well worth seeing) a long time in advance.

I really wouldn't worry about routes. There are some route experts on here who may share their knowledge but you won't go wrong just following the obvious route on the map.

Get yourself a tag and just set the satnav for the destination. You don't have to pay on every motorway in Spain but even when you do it isn't expensive. France, if coming through it to Spain is a lot more expensive but going cross country can be very slow so the choice is yours which tactic you adopt. You will need a different tag for France but I strongly recommend tags, so much less hassle at the toll booths.

For campsites getting the ACSI books and cards will let you see where they are and with ACSI you should be sure of a reasonable standard. At the risk of over-generalising Spanish campsites can be crowded and noisy, especially at weekends. They are what they are, the Spanish are a noisy lot who speak loudly. We're in Spain at the moment and like the country.

You will find both free and private aires and you really should include these options when looking for places to stay. There's nothing like the feeling of spending a night at a quiet and above all free aire - they do exist in Spain and France. Although for France it would be worth joining Camping-car Park who have Aires with services all over France. Cheaper than campsites too. :)

We will probably be going be close to Granada on this trip, which you can find here:

And an older trip which also covers Spain. Both start from Santander but you can arrive from France, by far the greatest number do.
