The recent threads about rear seats prompted me to consider who if any of the main manufacturers actually subject their travel seats to 'proper' crash testing.

When I have viewed some (eg Elddis with the collapsible ones in the front lockers) I have always thought they look very flimsy compared to say the ones that are incorporated into a dinette. When asking sales staff the answer seems a bit 'vague' to say the least usually saying they 'met all requirements', but do those requirements include actually crash testing them?

Given the small production numbers and various layouts for every model I doubt they do crash test much certainly not every layout. There would also be the question of how much water and fuel was in the tanks especially if the fresh tank is under a travel seat and flying tins of beans etc to consider!

As I understand it, there are two tests; the standard test is a Pull test, then an optional crash test.

I would expect any new leisure vehicle sold in the UK to have a Pull tested design with certificate available for all belted rear seats.
