Travel Insurance for 90 days in Europe including motorbike over 125cc?

Don’t need recovery as covered by the Fiat warranty

Can anybody please recommend an insurance company for the 90 day travel insurance? Red Pennant won’t cover our KTM890R as it’s too big in terms of cc, so when I purchase the policy it might as well cover the bike as well even though it’s insured separately anyway

Big Cat has been our travel insurer for over a year and will cover us up to June ‘25. It’s kind of gap year insurance. I took out an add on from them to cover us for using our motorbike over 125cc (300cc scooter).

Thanks for this, but why do you only have cover to June 2025 please? Or am I being a bit daft as usual 🤣

I took out nine months cover in Sept 23 which I then extended to run until June’25. That’s covered two nine month period of European touring and together with G(E)HIC cards gives us good cover (including riding Motorcycles) whilst travelling.

It’s also covered flights etc whilst returning home while we have been travelling, so worked out very well for us!

Thanks for the explanation, I wasn’t really being nosey, just wondered if it was age restricted or something like that, will take a look and see if they can cover the KTM

It’s travel insurance (health cover, delays, lost luggage etc) that you wanted, is that correct? If yes, they don’t care what the bike is, it’s over or under 125cc. I guess they have more customer they have to medically repatriate who ride larger bikes!

Yes it’s health insurance we are looking for but many have a clause regarding motorbikes above 125cc not being covered

I just checked my travel insurance (Nationwide) and a motorbike over 125cc would be covered IF you use it to travel ‘from your home area’.
Thanks, somebody else on FB warned me about this with a few companies, they say that Navigator Insurance covers use of the bike even if you rock up with the bike on a trailer

My Travel Insurance with Saga gives us cover for up to 180 days but part of the exclusions is the use of any motorbike over 125cc. By what I read this is fairly common policy.

Yes it is a common exclusion, but there are a few companies that will cover them

We use Cedartree (ride our GS1250 abroad occasionally) - covers you for anything that you are licensed to drive in the UK and their rates are competitive. I'm pretty sure there's no stipulation about how the bike got there or indeed even if it's your own bike or not.

Sadly it only covers six months max trip!

Do they require that the bike journey starts and finishes in the UK?

Many companies are happy to cover you if you ride from home but not if you stick it in the back of a van and transport it overseas.

I have annual multitrip cover with Cedartree - but then I never go for longer than 3 months. Are you saying you want more than 180 days consecutive cover? Wow, good luck with reasonably priced insurance for that. And equally won't your home / contents insurance be equally pricey / difficult to obtain?

<£800 for two years travel insurance, with two nine month trips, and contents/buildings is fine as we all live in one large family home. 😉

It’s gap year insurance, so it’s any bike I may ride over 125cc. It’s an add on and part of an extreme sports package.

Just returned from a biking tour (hired bikes) on Gran Canaria. My holiday insurance covered me to ride bikes above 125cc but the other two riders had to buy additional cover. Carole Nash provided the additional cover.

Sounds good - what holiday insurance was it that gave you cover please?

I use CoverForYou Annual MultiTrip (Economy), covers you for any vehicle you're licenced to drive/ride in the UK except Quads, you can transport the bike, you must wear safetygear as required in the UK.

Also covers you for a reasonable variety and decent level of "Dangerous Sports" that an intermediate participant would need (not Skiing)

I think it's underwritten by AXA, but may be wrong.

Edit: Just checked and the maximum duration of any one trip is 62 days, so not what you want, they may do a longer period as a one off deal

Cheers
Red.

Check Virgin Money as they do annual travel insurance with 90 days away at a time, not sure about motorbike but worth a shuftie.

just Googled them - taken over by Nationwide, no link to foreign travel insurance.
