So, I rang nationwide insurance today, FlexPlus.

Answered all their questions regarding my recent operation and they said they will not cover me for my pre-existing conditions (heart bypass)

Went through all the questions with them and they directed me to this website for help.

Most wouldn't offer cover and some were extortionate!

So I went onto the GoCompare website for pre-existing and found cover from as little (I say that lightly considering I will be double insured for everyone else). £37 for 10 days. £165 for 90 days.

Anyone have similar issues ?

Had same issue after mine, also was with Nationwide who did not cover me for the bypass. So I used to take out another policy with another insurer just for me. Eventually dropped the Nationwide account when they increased the monthly cost and didn't pay interest.
I now just shop around when needed. Currently have annual cover via a post office policy.

Are you looking at specific cover for the by pass or just general travel insurance cover?

Nationwide will continue to cover me for all other aspects of my health, but not my pre-existing medical conditions.

So I was trying to get just the pre-existing covered.

As an example as far as I and Friends in Spain can foresee (Spanish and ex-pats). With the GHIC Card, I would be treated by the Spanish National Health System. But not wanting to take any risks

That is what they cover me for but nothing for pre existing conditions, hence the question.

I have not found a company that will simply take the existing on
I was quoted £704 for four days in Malta by one company who boasts they will cover any condition! I just have the EHIC card and nationwide plus a repatriation clause, if needed on my funeral plan!

look at Eurotunnel insurance. The times I have used them, i did not have to declare medical conditions, just answer the question, “if asked, would your doctor say you are fit to travel” ?

I had a heart attack a couple of years ago and I got a couple of stents fitted. I got covered with Staysure who've covered me. I believe it was around £150 for a years policy. Worth a call?

I'm with Staysure too, for a multi trip policy £227. I have one stent and other medicals such as diabetes, arthritis. However, other restrictions are
Age 0-70 can travel up to 50 days in one trip
Age 71+ can travel up to 35 days in one trip
All policies cannot exceed more than 183 days of travel in total. Saga can also insure plus many other companies do for medical conditions.

Reinterate Staysure, wife had a condition that our existing insurance refused renewal on. Staysure, no problems, covered it fully and for not much more than the old policy it replaced.

The issue for us was the needing worldwide cruise as we had at the time a cruise booked in Carribean last xmas -> and the wife refused to cancel it (but cruises need a massive 2.5million cover for repat which most insurners welch at, due to the high costs of repatriation from Carribean to US, and high costs IN US.).

We’re with Staysure too
It was £162 for the year but a further £359 to add worldwide cruise cover .
