Has anybody had a travel insurance quote after the repair as pre operation they seem extremely pricey

Can you translate that? 🙃

If you've got one and it hasn't been operated on yet then I am not surprised insurance premiums are high. Don't want to scare you although if you have done your research you will know it is 100% fatal if it bursts. I've lost one friend to it (undiagnosed) and another had an operation, which took a long time to recover from but better that than the alternative.

Are you having to have an op Joe?
Yes. Waiting to hear from the hospital. Had bloods tests done prior to scan so waiting on a date for that and then op after that.it went up from 4.3 to 5.5

I hope they get you sorted out quickly, when were you hoping to get away again?

The NHS provide ultra sound scanning for this, for men and women over a certain age, I had mine several years ago, it's similar to how they scan pregnant ladies, just a little higher up.

Edit: As denisejoe says, women are not scanned, apparently men are 6 x more likely to suffer one so not enough evidence to warrant scanning women.

They are annual scans but women are not scanned scans start at 65

if it reaches 6 cams you have to surrender your driving license and only get it Back after a repair.

They are not annual, it’s a one off screening scan at 65. It only gets repeated if it’s enlarged and not requiring surgery, then it’s scanned more regularly to monitor it to see if it reaches a size requiring surgery. The frequency of rescanning depends on the size.

I’ve had annual scans since 65 was going up fairly slowly
That means you have a small AAA measuring 3-4.4cm, if it reaches 4.5 cm you’ll be called 3 monthly as it would then be classed as a medium sized one, still fairly low risk though! 5.5 cm or above is classed as large and high risk so requires surgery.

It was explained to me that if you don’t have an AAA at 65, then you’re unlikely to develop one. Hence it’s a one-off scan if nothing untoward is found.

That’s what I said in my post but in a different way!

That’s exactly what I was told when I had mine six years ago never had one since😊🤞

I was on yearly scans now 2 yearly I was told it would never be a problem to me at my age but they would keep the scans up , incidentally I never knew I had a problem it was found on a check up

I'm 77 never even heard of this problem. Mind you I'm certain there are many more problems I'm fortunate enough to have never heard of too

https://www.nhs.uk/services/service...ning-programme-dorset-and-wiltshire/N10876761For those older chaps who’ve never been called it’s not too late to get one. It was probably brought in after you passed the trigger age of 64/65, it varies a bit depending on where you live. Google AAA screening in my area. It takes you to the NHS screening program info firstYou enter your postcode and it gives you the ones near you. You can phone, explain and they will give you an appointment. It does work! Even if you asked your GP they’d refer you to this.
The link is now at the top! It works for all areas though, press home and start again for your own postcode.

Liam has had 2 aneurysm repairs and one repair to a repair. The last one only 8 weeks and one day before I got medical insurance from Staysure - annual policy but only 35 days in Europe per trip. They were not particularly interested in the details other than was the operation more than 8 weeks ago. Not extortionally expensive and some companies I have contacted would not insure him. I did question the fact that at least he now knows he does not have an AAA unlike some others who may be blissfully ignorant but vulnerable. The call handler was not interested.
My only advice is to speak to the company rather than do it on line.
Liam's AAA was picked up when he had an xray following a series of colds. Nothing wrong with his lungs but the AAA was 6.8 and rising!
