Hiya all.

We are travelling down to Les Mathes Friday night from Dieppe. On one app (Waze) it advises that we need a crit air sticker. I didn’t think we needed one as not going to the listed major cities they advise. Below is the route we plan on taking.

Does anyone have info if we do need one?. With time left till we go I’m not sure we will get the actual sticker in time. Happy to try and get one in time, not sure if application would stop fine?.

Also can you advise on everything we need as don’t want to forget something silly.

Cheers
James

If you don’t enter those cities, you won’t need the stickers. I think you need a Crit’ Air for Rouen, and the area covered might include the bypass (can’t quite tell without a very detailed look). You just need to avoid the area. Does your SatNav warn you of an Envirommental Zone? It should offer a detour to avoid.
Evidence of an application is unlikely to stop a fine in France.
Bring your V5 original Document.

Cheers for that. We will get it ordered now. Not hopeful of it being delivered in 5 days lol

I doubt you have time now unfortunately.

We have a sticker, but I don't know how it all works. And if you don't stop I don't know how they can check?

Anyway, enjoy your trip.

Actually, if you did purchase a sticker, I just read that you get an instant email acknowledgment that you can use as evidence until the real one arrives (during your holiday!)

Like anything - if they stop you for anything ( and they do lig about roundabouts and stop you ‘on spec’) they’ll just add it to the list of faults they find

Once you order and pay for the sticker they send you a receipt. They state that this receipt can be used as proof of your registration. My sticker took 9 days to arrive but I just printed off the receipt and it was accepted.

How does it actually work then? I assumed it was camera operated and fine in post if got picked up.

The sticker isn't camera operated as far as I know but I can't say if ANPR cameras don't check the vehicle to see if it is registered.

When it does arrive stick it in the bottom righthand corner of the screen when looked at from the inside. This is because it puts it nearer eye level for someone checking on foot when the vehicle is parked.

Once you gave paidyour vehicle/ registration number will be on there system. The paper receipt will be in case any law enforcement officer needs to check.

Mmm struggling with the Crit Air site. Doesn’t like the decimal point when trying to input the CO emission value. And seems to stall when uploading V5 pdf.

We didn’t add that value. It’s shown on v5. Your image needs to be compressed in size to below 2mb

Yes it’s only 700kb pdf. Just freezes when I upload. same if use iPad or Mac. Don’t have windows pc.

Strange. Alex had issue on her Samsung phone. I did it today on my iPhone. All boxes that need filling in go green when done correctly. Then it takes you to personal details

Sorted, must have just been a glitch! We’re off in a week, so assume we won’t get it in time but at least have electronic receipt.

I would certainly get a crit air sticker, they are only a small cost, last the life time of the vehicle. Whilst you might not plan to go into a city, you might have to if you need a hospital, or a fiat professional repair garage. In these events you really dont want to be faffing around with trying to sort out a sticker.

Came through Rouen two weeks ago, no sign of any crit airs area.We left the bypass at the first exit towards Pont de Arch. Didn't cross river till then.

Apply and you get email immediately with confirmation of your sticker which you show if stopped, your reg will be registered so you wont receive a fine my email stated i cld use it as proof so worth doing for under 5 euros.

They use a comma to indicate the decimal point, not a full stop

Good though! I’ve no intentions of entering, but there might be such circumstances!

Jean-Paul with a gitane hanging from his bottom lip. He won’t have or need any of those

Don't need breathalyser and he says 4 people in car and so use if you break down and have to get out of car. I have been going to France every year for almost 20 years and never been stopped, maybe lucky or not but don't stress about something that is unlikely to happen and enjoy France (it's better than here).ps. I have had sticker since they were brought out and never needed it but for the price it's best to have it, same as German one.

The crit air stickers are for the meter maids to check up on, they can only do this if you park up in the cities where they are required. If you drive straight through a restricted zone, there's no checking being carried out by cameras or other such tech wizardry. Same as in Germany with their Umweltplakette, only a problem not having one if you are parked up by the road side and the meter maid can stand and study your windscreen, hence why they insist you place it low down on the right hand side .....

We have one for each of our vehicles ie Motorhome and sometimes we have our car and or motorbike on a trailer - as the Cert-air lasts for the duration you own each vehicle it seems the way to go saves any argument - a friend of ours did get stopped by police in a small town who decided they wanted to see every document on the vehicle they didn’t have very good French and police spoke no English it was a difficult stop in frustration I think they let them get on their way
