Does it have to be a campsite? There is a camperstop at Venta de Mea just North of Madrid on the Burgos Road.
I realise that you might need EHU though for aircon in the middle of July in Madrid!

Have you thought about driving overnight. It might be marginally cooler. I did a similar route in a car, albeit in February, setting off from Alicante early evening, stopping for an hour's snooze part way, arriving in Bilbao by breakfast. I was younger then though. I wouldn't do it now.

We have stopped at Riaza which is an ACSI campsite many times, it’s around 40 mile north of Madrid and about 6 miles off the A1

Just turn up at the campsite of your choice..
July and August are the main holiday period and I don't expect many Spanish holidaymakers would be enjoying the 35°c to 40°c most will be somewhere on the coastline..
I'm sure you will accommodated 👍🇪🇦🤔

Sorted now ,called them said no need to book cheers
There you go....sorted...I would imagine you took them by suprise asking for a reservation 8 months in advance....that's not how it works here....not very Spanish....
Central Spain is fairly quiet in the summer the same goes for Easter...everyone migrates to the Coast...
In a National Park here in Murcia the restaurant's close in July and August....why...nobody goes there in Summer....
A friend of ours owns a Five Star hotel in the same Sierra....it's closed now until mid January....because no demand this time if the year... Simple...
Make sure your Aircon is serviced before your trip....ours will be....and we too will be on the coast....Safe Travels..
