This motorhome has been parked on a road close to where I live since late last year, it has now sadly been trashed and robbed of parts. It is still taxed till April but the MOT ran out in December.

Looked like it was a half decent MH before hand.

Possibly a van lifer's home until recently. Some scumbags trashed it maybe for amusement.

I used to see an old Compass Drifter parked regularly on a fairly quiet industrial estate at the back of our local Waitrose. Or sometimes near Tesco. Not the same one as in the OP photos. Sign of the times.

Could it have been stolen then dumped I wonder? As it was taxed and MOT'ed, it might not have pinged in the Police car?

My understanding from watching police programmes on channel 5 (so not claiming to be an expert!!!) is that the ANPR systems will alert for stolen vehicles (as long as they have been reported to the police as such).

This week on one of the shows, there was a car flagged as stolen which triggered a fixed ANPR camera and was subsequently stopped. It turned out the owner had just picked up the recovered car but the stolen flag hadnt been taken off the ANPR system

but if the vehicle hadn't moved from the day it was stolen and before it was reported, it would not trigger any fixed camera's would it?
Like you, I'm just guessing?

Thats a shame, must of had some value before the vandels got to work.

But you would think the police and local council would take an interest.
Many years ago there was a glut of abandoned cars littering the streets.
After a while the police would stick a "police aware" sticker on the screen then the council would remove for scrap.
Why the police can't trace the owner, if it has plates which this has, then visit the owner to see what's going on.
I know they are so busy pulling speeders and kids on leccy scooters but it wouldn't take long.

It was only last week that it first got vandalised. Before then it looked a decent van. It looks like it was a full timers home as it is packed with stuff and the rear stabilisers are down. Police have now put a police aware sticker on the screen.

Why would the police trace the owner? Abandoned vehicles are the responsibility of the local authority.

A tragic, wasteful event - I would think it might be repairable depending on how vicious they got inside but all so very unnecessary.

I have had unwanted attention to my parked van on occasions - other threads will tell you that it has been from both pijo (posh) and NIMBY neighbours as well as a couple of very unwanted break-ins. Fortunately, nothing substantial was broken or taken - mainly cos there is nothing substantial to take and the thieves were pros rather than kids with hammers and spray cans.

The police here told me that they expect a vehicle should be moved every 14 days to demonstrate that it is not in complete disuse or a problem. Had I been there and had I been asked by the owner, I would've gone and moved that van for them, which might not have saved this damage, but maybe it could have gone to a place where it was less likely to have happened?

I'm feeling all like Nick Owens now, but do we need 'Vanwatch'??

At least they haven't trashed the graphics I applied when it was new. They still look crisp after all this time. Modern day graphics are really poor quality and not made to last long.

It does make you think something might have happened to the owner.
I would always try to be very choosy about where I left my moho for more than a day or so.
