I would like to transfer all my saved sites from my old satnag to my new one, is it possible?

In the file structure I can see 3 candidates where the info could be stored, Gpi, Gpx and Poi. Opening any of them up with Notepad I can recognise some of the data but not sure which file to copy over.

What brand to what brand?
If it's Garmin to Garmin it should be easy.
I've done similar before
Brand A to Brand B might be a bit more complex as they may use different file types.

How many do you have saved ??
I think my original satnag had a limit of 30 or 50.

Frankly it was easier to spend 10 mins re-entering the 10 that I actually use, and leaving the rest to be entered as an when I actually need them.
My 'new' sat nag, now about 18 months old, still only has about a dozen locations entered.

Thought it might be given the file extensions you mentioned, Dane.

I've got, and use, BaseCamp on my desktops / laptops and it's just a matter of importing the gpx file into BaseCamp and then "sending it to device" from there.

Well it works for me!

If possible -
  • install BaseCamp (there's a Mac version as well as Windows)
  • COPY your .gpx file onto your computer (so nothing is changed on your old sat nav)
  • in BaseCamp do "File / File import into BaseCamp"
  • select your .gpx file and enter
  • after it has imported you should see your data in BaseCamp
  • assuming you do,
  • connect your new sat nav and make sure it appears in the left hand pane in BaseCamp
  • in BaseCamp do "Device / Send to device"
  • it should then copy the data to your new sat nav and you should see it under your sat nav in the left hand pane.
That should be it but check on your new sat nav when you unplug it.

That's the way I did it when moving from our 760 to 780 but, as with all techie stuff, don't blame me! :whistle2:

Cheers Grant, will have a crack at it tomorrow, as I need to keep me strength up for tonight as it's Valentines day ;);)

Bed by 9 o'clock and sleeping by 5 past? :giggler:

Give me a shout if you need further.(y)

Edit: eeeek just realised, the second sentence is about your sat nav process and not Valentine's day performance! 😱
