Trying to get my head around the question of weight limits and trailers. I'm thinking of moving my scooter from the rear garage to a dedicated scooter trailer (seen a nice one by Armitage). Assuming I will be under the plated train weight, am I right in thinking that the only increase in weight over the rear axle when the trailer is hitched up would be the weight of the towbar, given that the scooter and trailer weight would be sitting on the trailer axle? Or have I fundamentally misunderstood rear axle weights?

There will be a nose weight on the trailer/towball depending on how the scooter is loaded and of course this will be acting further behind the axle than the scooter in the MH garage, what I am saying is that usually the scooters centre of gravity would be in front of the axle by a certain amount, whatever it takes to pick up the trailer off it's jockey wheel (assuming it has one) would add to the tow bar weight.

For the transverse trailer their website says nose weight is 30kg + 10% of bike weight so for a small scooter you might add another 12kg or so. Do you already have the tow bar ? If not you might not be saving much apart from space in the garage.

We tow our scooter on a Motolug trailer. That gives a small nose weight on the tow ball but nothing like the weight of a scooter in the garage. So nett loss of weight on the rear axle.

Once you tow a trailer, speed restrictions come in, and you are not allowed to use the outside lane on a 3 lane motorway

If I could I would stow in the garage if weight and size were suitable. Our 300cc scoot is 180kg and too big for our garage. Trailers are a faff but a necessary evil
