I'm considering a tracker for my new Carthago which should be arriving soon. One that has a driver recognition feature. I'm trying to identify ones that use a credit card sized tag that I can fit in my phone case instead of a separate fob that I have to have in my pocket. Does anyone have experience of which makes have these?

I have the Global Telemetrics tracker and that has a credit card sized tag which is also rechargeable, you switch it on and off as you need to use it.

I've got a key fob on my keyring for the tracker. It doesn't block the ignition, but I do get a call within 30 seconds if the engine is started or the van is moved without it being in the vehicle. I also got a call when I disconnected the battery. And when the train started rolling at the Eurotunnel terminal. It's a Metatrak fitted by VanBitz.

The trouble with a fob attached to your keys is that if your keys get pinched they've got the fob as well. I'd rather have them separate which is why the credit card type is so attractive, I can keep it with my phone. Unless of course my phone gets nicked as well as the keys!

I have the global Telematics one as well paid for the lifetime monitoring, currently in France forgot to turn the card on this morning less than three mins got a phone call asking for password can’t fault it.

Why not give Van Bitz a call as there are many permutations to suit you. For example on my latest Van I chose to have driver ID tags as when I go out I always take my phone and keys, but often never bother with my wallet as all my card details are on my phone

But, I also opted for the “Non Starter” option which means the motorhome won’t start unless a thief has access to the phone which is of course always with me even when the motorhome isn’t

Linked in with my Growler system it also communicates with the alarm advising me if the alarm is triggered for example.

Van Bitz do a system called ‘Raptor’ now I believe where all this is standard, I retired from the business last year and had all the toys fitted onto my retirement motorhomes 😉 and I think the boys looked at what the old man selected for his own motorhome, based on 32 years of experience and thought, “Do you know what…?”

Or it could be their clever lads anyway, but it could be worth discussing all of the permutations with them, it doesn’t cost to talk

These guys do and don't rely just on a mobile signal but if that's not important to you then the Vanbits solution is pretty good

If you are thinking of keeping it in a little slot on the inside of your phone case I wouldn't, I had a couple of credit cards in mine and they have marked my screen.

Hate using Amazon but I did get a key wallet and the id card is within the zip and the other keys inside.

Amazon product ASIN B074QNPB4H

Mine doesn’t but I think there is an option to with the Phantom Sentinel range.

I have just had a sentinel S5 from Moving Intelligence Fitted ( formerly Phantom) It too has the Driver I’d fobs. Just getting to grips with where to keep them because I realise if you attach the fob to your key ring with the van’s remote then there is no point in having it. Added to which we have two sets of everything so we are finding ways and places to keep the various bundles when in the house and then when in the Motorhome. Fortunately the ADI fob fits nicely into a Brest pocket on your fleece or shirt so that’s always with you Our dilemma at the moment is when we are away do we take both sets of keys and fobs if my wife keeps one set and I the other but then keep the vans key fobs separate from the ADI tag. First world problems I know but I do like the concept.

You are right about not keeping the tag with your keys of course, I have been experimenting with different places for the tag but the issue I have found is that the tag goes to sleep, to save battery power I assume, then if it hasn't been moved and woken up you get an immediate text from Phantom (Moving Intelligence) when you turn the ignition.

That’s interesting I had not thought about that. I supppse a quick glance to see if the fob if doing it’s 8 second blip. I had read in one of NI booklets that a brisk shake of the tag / fob teeakens it

I have the Non-Starter and Growler Alarm from Van Bitz.
Both brilliant products, fitted by the great guys down there.
You do have a small fob with the alarm though, and the non-starter controlled from your smart phone,
Both products give total peace of mind and you know where your m/h is located at all times.

But are these ?driver' recognition trackers able to be jammed same as an ordinary one?

We have phantom also I keep the tag on a dog clip when out and about clip it to a belt loop and put it in my pocket at home its hidden well away from the van keys.

Do you have a second set …i am not sure whether to take the second set with us when we go away or keep them at Home. I can see the merits of both. Just interested in what others do

Thanks for that. I am considering getting one of this lanyards to put it around neck under my shirt or top

Only take the 1 set away with us , the other left at home

I never travel without a spare key any more, especially so when a long way from home.

Thanks yes that’s my philosophy too Jim. Thank you I find it so useful hearing others peoples opinions. Thanks again everyone

On our recent trip to Spain we got the chance of a early tunnel after taking the dogs to the pet reception.
We preceded at pace back to the van from the pet reception as it was the next train I dropped the keys picked them up used the key remote to open the hab door and turn off the alarm as usual, when I put the keys in the ignition turned them and nothing just a warning on the dash saying key not recognised 🤬
Lucky I keep a spare but under pressure forgot where I had hidden it 😵‍💫 anyway found in time and boy was I glad I decided to keep a spare so it's not just incase you loose your keys well not in my case anyway.

PS it always happens when you least want it too 😂

We always carry 2 x sets of keys with a fob, ie, one set each which has worked well for the last 34 x years. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
We do in the van, but not in our own cars, my key fell apart and immobilised my car, contacted RAC, told to USE MY OTHER KEY, very forcefully, weren't happy i didn't carry it with me.

Do you carry them everywhere rather than leave 1 set in the van? I heard the insurance want both sets if the van is stolen

Yes Sue, when away in the MH, but we both have a key to the car as well.

Do you carry them everywhere
Yep, 1 x set in my pocket, with the other set in Rita's handbag. No keys or fobs left in the MH at anytime, with alarm, immobiliser, and tracker all set, and deadlocks secured if leaving unattended for any length of time.

Our house doors are even locked in the daytime whilst we are at home, that's how security conscious we are. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

yes.It would never occur to me to leave a set in the van. I have one set in my right pocket & one set in my left pocket . same with the house keys, 2 sets.

We have the Global Telemetrics tracker and it uses my iPhone to verify it’s me in the vehicle. It uses an app on the phone. I binned the tags last year when we switched to this system. Seems to work very well.

Same here Global telematics since mh new in Jan, not looked back since engineer cane and move the aerial behind dash, as signal was crap. Saying mh was still in Northants at dealership !
I blagged a free month subs so was happy, and no probz since, touch wood. Love the card system, turn it off and on as you need to, keep it in my money clip so safe in pocket, even the Mrs not allowed touch it 🤣 No spare card in her c/card zippy bag in handbag, and spare hab/locker key in my pocket, as lot easier access garage/Gas/Water etc . . .

We have the senitinel fitted our only issue with it was dealer did a warranty repair and disturbed alarm wiring, did you know if system loses power it has its own battery for 24 hours and thats it no signal for loss of power. Tracker doesnt know where you are only your last reference when it was active, alarm wont work but van locks and beeps as normal. We drove 300 miles and moving intelligence had no idea where the motorhome was and their response time to recifty was 8 days. Had to rewire alarm myself to get it working and only thing I noticed different was in the app there was no shown battery voltage. Thinking of fitting another device as when the engineer arrived he said most thieves know which system by the armed tones. We had ours for fitted from new and hopefully will slow any attempts down.
