Hi everybody

Apologies if this topic has been covered before but have searched the old threads without success.
We had a Tracker Locate fitted a year ago just after we bought our motorhome and the first year subscription has just run out, we have spoken to a few people on the various sites that we have stayed and also to neighbours who also have a Tracker fitted. Many people have said they negotiated very keen rates for a "lifetime" subscription" which in some cases was only about £200 for the lifetime.
However on ringing Tracker last week they said they used to do this under what they called a "dual subscription" but not now and if you want to renew your subscription they offer fixed prices for either a 1, 3 or 5 year subscription.
Has anybody any recent experience of costs when renewing their subscription?
Regards
Peter

Only experience I've had is of the Cobra Cat 5 tracker, which insurance people insisted on on the previous van.

Foolishly I paid for 3 years in advance as it showed a saving on 3 x 1 years subscription. Was happy at the time as having just bought the van, I had no,plans to sell it within 3 years.

Things change however and we changed the van after 16 months. Rang Cobra for a refund, or to see if subscription could be transferred to any new owner.

No chance! No refund, not transferable, basically tough luck! If I had a new Cobra tracker fitted, they wouldn't apply the unused portion to the new vehicle either. Apparently it's all in the terms and conditions...

So a couple of £00 out of pocket and, surprise surprise, Cobra didn't get my business for the new van. But neither did I pay for more than 1 year subscription either .

For me, it annual only from now. They say they send several reminders about a month before so it should be hard to accidentally let the cover lapse, which I wouldn't want to happen as I'd not have any theft insurance.

We have a SmartTrak system fitted to both the motorhome and towed car.
Installation for each was 185.00 then just under 400.00 for lifetime subscription.
We went this way because the subscription is transferrable to another vehicle if it's removed and put into the replacement. Even if this costs another full install fee, it seems worthwhile given the value of vehicles it's tracking.
:D

why its insured .....just another ripoff?
Not necessarily.....a condition of our getting theft cover for the past 2 vans has been a Cat 5 tracker AND a Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser.

Had to run the latest van for 10 days with no theft cover, luckily it was in use for the whole time so not too much of an issue but not something to do long term.

Not necessarily. Depends on why you have it fitted.
If it's an insurance condition, then you've got a point. We had ours fitted to have the possibility to recover it if it ever gets nicked. It raises the issue of wanting it back if it's trashed, but on balance I think it's a small price to pay for such a large investment - only about the same as annual insurance for the motorhomes lifetime.
All, of course, IMHO
:)

Can these trackers not just contact you instead of a call centre?

out of interest what is the year 2 onwards annual cost of the Vanbitz Non-starter tracker / remote immobiliser and is it extended through Vanbitz

£54-95 for a year, option of paying up front for 3 years at a slightly discounted rate. You get reminders from Metatrak both through the app and by email before the initial contract expires, and renew direct with Metatrak (Vestatec UK). I only know because I've just renewed mine an hour ago!
