Would like to put a tracker in my motorhome so if the inevitable ever happened I would be able to track it in real time on my phone.
Any recommendations would be helpful please

Teletrac Navman are excellent. They fitted ours at home with their own technician and were really professional. They also cover all of Europe if you’re unlucky enough to have your vehicle stolen abroad.

It’s important to go for a well established company as your tracker is only as good as the support behind it. If the company who make a tracker closes down there’s no one to track your vehicle for you if it’s stolen!

They’re not cheap but I think you get what you pay for. I believe they’re also the tracker of choice at Vanbitz, which is a good indicator of their quality.

I'm sure the professionals may comment but if youre getting a tracker thats going to be worth getting it should use more than one technology ie .. gps/glonass.. gsm and vhf and idealy be able to use both passive and active tracking.. in effect try and outsmart the thieves.
You can't beat physical security though for the deterrent factor alone. (Pedal locks.. steering locks ..swivel seat locks ... bollard, gates and decent cctv
None starter technology is also excellent and cost effective.

If a thief is determined he will get it. The best we can do is discourage them.

We have a Tracker fitted, chain the front doors together when in the drive or parked up away from home, turn the drivers seat and lock it in position.

But a determined thief, armed with a crowbar, battery powered angle grinder, and somewhere to hide the vehicle, blocking the Tracker, could still get it.

We do all we can but, after that, that’s why we pay insurance.

These get good reviews (342 on Amazon), self fitted for £30. Called the TK103A.

There are other threads about trackers, for example here.

I recently consulted a security company about a tracker for our new van. He said the existing Thatcham CAT 5 or 6 system is changing from 1 Jan next year.

I think the new system is "S5 VTS".

Might be worth bearing in mind when choosing which tracker to buy in near future.

He mentioned Metatrak offered a good system that complied with the new regs.

Not saying its necessary but mention it as a heads up.

I will probably change insurer to avoid having to have a tracker fitted myself but the dealer is fitting an autowatch alarm as part of the deal.

It only does the same as mine but mines - probably not going to be insurance approved
They claim its S5 and 24hr monitored but there is an annual fee of £150 for that.
Will there be an £150 discount on your insurance payments - there should be - if its never going to stolen.

You are correct, as of 1st January 2019 CAT 5 & 6 will not apply on any new installations from this date. If you have a Cat 5 or 6 unit fitted now, this will still be covered by the insurers at it was correct at time of fitment. Please find info regarding the Shadow VTS below;

This conforms to the latest regulations for 2019, so if it is insurance approved tracking you require then not an issue.

Hey folks, just ordered trackers for all of our family cars - at £13 each plus SIMs - what's not to like!

Anyway - please, if you would be so kind, PM me with suggestions as to where I could fit it on a Fiat Ducato PVC.

Simple device - tracker only, 12V supply, no connections to doors, fuel pumps etc.

Thanks ever so!

A Hidden Switch, wired to kill the fuel pump. Is still IMV the best unsophisticated and cheapest way of stopping the rig being driven away. AND will make it more time consuming to remove on a recovery type vehicle too. The trick is to make the perpetrator give up due to the time it is taking. Mine is behind locked gates for starters. and 80% of the time another car is parked up to said gates.
