hello everyone i have a motor-home that i have just purchased a smart car with a frame to tow behind i have towed lots of times with trailers on my smart car when behind van the wheels turn side ways when reversing so impossible to reverse it i have being suggested to point wheel straight and ratchet strap in a forward position any suggestions from a frame users thanks

With our Aygo Tow cars to tow bars system, I've reversed in a straight line for a good distance a few time carefully watching in the camera but around corners the wheels will lock up unless you're lucky and could cause damage to the car. I was told to apply the steering lock to reverse but I still think this would stress the car too much.
If we're in a tight spot we unhitch the car and drive it.

When towing a Smart car you have to make absolutely sure it is in neutral. There is a false neutral position where the gear lever is in the neutral position but the gearbox is still engaged. Neutral must be selected before switching the engine off. I gave up towing my Smart car because it did not always behave well when making sharp turns and clipping pot holes. I traded it in for a VW Up which is very well behaved. I can’t say all Smarts misbehave but my diesel one did. If you have problems there are things you can do but yours may be ok.
