I'm a newbie
Hi all,

Thank you for all the help so far. Since taking delivery of our dream in January we have travelled loads of places in the school holidays - we don't hang about and go as far as we can starting with the euro tunnel.

I am currently upgrading my licence to be sure I am covered with the weight as I'm on a new licence. I do want to tow my car in the UK for when we go back home to south wales (allow us to get about and see family and friends) and back and forth storage.

Can anyone recommend a company that convert cars to tow with an A-frame?

Thanks in advance

Richie

By far the most economical way is to buy a car already converted complete with its A Frame
Adds on here,E Bay or most of the converters have used cars for sale
you just need to decide which braking system you prefer, my opinion for what its worth is they all work I have at the moment a cable braked version Im happy with I have had them all

I am really looking to get our car converted as we recently bought it brand new this year when downgrading it to tow behind the motorhome on either A-Frame or trailer but recently decided I do not want a trailer as we will not require a car abroad after our travels so far.

www.caratow.com will send a fitter to your home or work address to install if it's not a new model

Tow bar 2 tow car are very good. Check how heavy some of the A frame are as well.
Another vote from me for Towbars2Towcars ... great service and quality service. The always have a good stock of cars but will convert most models.

We currently have one of their Peugeot 108, and previously one of their Aygo's.

Towbars2Towcars did ours. Great family run business, and we're more than happy with the product. They will lend you a car whilst yours is being converted too. (y)

Where are they based? I will look them up now.

Just had a lovely chat with Alan at Car-A-Tow in Poole. He was very informative and talked me through how it is a custom job - how he loves one-offs and likes drawing out parts to be made etc.

I did say to him that I bought the Alfa Mito Veloce as I'm not a small car lover and this was a big tick for me with the looks etc. So apologies if it's not been done before. LOL.

Towbars2Towcars wouldn't consider a custom job. I was really happy with my chat with Car-A-Tow so looks like i found my answer.

Alan Bee really knows his stuff and was the original designer. We had an issue that our car is a transition year to the new model and a standard bracket did not fit. Dropped the car off at their workshop outside Wimbourne (They have move from Poole) in the morning and collected that evening. they took the standard bracket for the car and cut off a mounting plate and re-welded it back in a new suitable position and painted it before fitting. This gave them the dimensions for a new drawing for the new model. Alan loves a challenge

What car are you wanting to tow ?
I just bought a new Alfra Romeo Mito. I have not driven a small car in years and this was what drew my eye - possibly should have thought about if it could be converted first. Alan was really understanding as he said the tow cars you usually see are a bit  - one of has to drive it daily until it becomes the third car.

He was really nice to be fair. Thats what he said he'd have to do for the Alfa and welcomed the challenge. I did say I should have researched first - but I couldn't see myself in most the tow cars I came across. This was a good compromise

I had google the car , yes making the bumper look tidy where the tow bolts go will be an art. To me a car is just something that takes me where I don’t want to go, work. Haha

I hear you. We both travel quite a bit to work and always up and down the country seeing family. Small has never ticked the box - but I quite like the little Mito. My motorhome is actually the favourite to drive though!

Just to add to this thread, returned from a trip around Bristol during which we had our Kia Picanto X line fitted with a Towmaster2 system at LNB
Very impressed with both the system and my good lady who towed the car on the bar all the way back home 150 miles

Interesting info;
She achieved 31.5 on the way down (65mph) unloaded and an impressive 29.1 (55mph) on the way back with 1120kg Kia on the back
