I'm a newbie
Over the years there has been many discussions regarding towing a car on the back of your M/H. What is and isn't allowed. Has anyone had experience of doing this through France, Spain & Portugal, What are the pitfalls and would you recommend this?

Your comments would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Use a trailer, no chance of any hassle then.

Asked very many times. Here's an informative thread from a couple of weeks ago

Not advised, especially in Spain. Even the breakdown companies can't flat tow a broken down vehicle.....it has to be 'off the ground'
You can earn an on-the-spot fine and be told to unhitch.... A real problem if you're the only driver.
France and Germany are quickly following suit.

As previously said a purpose built trailer is the best way and perfectly legal
Forgot Spain and Portugal as A-frames are not tolerated

We've used both A Frame and trailer, in the EU.

Don't use A Frame abroad. It is not legal in most of Europe and if you don't get tugged, you are still breaking the law. The Gardai in Ireland didn't give a toss however.

Use a trailer abroad. It's legal, although if your train is over 12m, you have extra rules to follow in some countries

I think the difference is that on the Continent, something is illegal unless the law says it is legal, here it is the opposite, it is legal until the law says otherwise. Used a trailer for years in France and never had a problem. Also means no driving with fingers crossed every time you see the law.

Stay legal, use a trailer not an A frame, then you can enjoy your holiday, without looking over your shoulder.
