From the ADAC website in Germany: Interesting point for some.
Riders who transport their bicycles, skis or snowboards with such a rear carrier no longer have to use warning signs if the carrier has a repeat license plate and its own lighting.
The legal situation regarding the attachment of bicycle racks to the vehicle had changed several times in recent years. Now there is legal clarity: The new regulation applies to vehicles in the categories M1 (passenger cars, SUVs and motorhomes) and N1 (light commercial vehicles).
It only applies to carrier systems mounted on the towbar.
You will still need to carry a warning sign as this is not a unified decision across europe.
