not sure where to post this...

We are going to tour the USA for just over two weeks in an RV early September. Looking for advice on maps, campsite information etc. Flying into Denver and through YellowStone and out from Phoenix. All advice would be gratefully received. Haven’t booked the RV yet so advice on hire companies would also be appreciated.

I have used Cruise America in the past and they have a depot in Denver where I dropped off our van after our last trip.
They do a package of equipment including bedding etc but you might find it cheaper once you have collected your van go straight to the nearest Walmart and get kitted out. Keep the receipt because Cruise America used to do a deal where they would buy stuff back from you such as folding chairs and put it into their stock to rent out.
We used them a couple of times and found their service very good especially if you have a problem as we did through sheer inexperience not through anything actually wrong with the van.
You cant get anything but weak beer in Colorado on a Sunday if I remember (we ran out of wine and beer and had to make do with piss weak Coors Light)
The US Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs is worth a visit as is the factory outlet mall at Castle Rock.
Golden is nearby and you can visit the Coors brewery and if you are into railways, visit the Colorado Railway museum, some great iconic exhibits there.

If you are into aircraft there are a couple of miseums near Phoenix but near Tuscon is the Pima air and space museum which in addition to their 300+ exhibits has bus tours of a 2600acre aircraft boneyard. Fab if you are into photography.
Near Phoenix is Rawhide - a recreated 1880s western town http://rawhide.com all a bit Hollywood including shoot outs in the main street but very very photogenic.
Loads to do and see in Arizona - spme long drives but we loved it.

We have used Cruise America and El Monte , both ok . They normally provide a KOA (Kamp sites of America) site book and discount card , can’t remember what discount was.
Most sites have a pool and some a hot tub, pitches generally have a bbq and fire ring and most also are full service pitches including waste dump.
If driving a B Class RV (coach built) for the first time beware width of mirrors.

If you get the bug it’s worth considering for the future a Cruise America one way relocation of new RVs in the Spring from Chicago or Toronto , special rates make it a very attractive option, we booked through www.cruiseamerica.co.uk , the uk agents.

Have a great trip.

If you are going into Yellowstone, don’t forget to check out Grand Teton NP nearby, much less touristy than YS.

Just don't underestimate just how far everything is apart from each other in the US of A! I spent 6 months touring around the western side of the country and unless you are using the interstate system, some of the roads are, let's say, challenging! Mind you, I was towing a "small" 28ft 5th wheel! Don't rush, it'll be there next week or the next time you go because I warn you, it is very addictive and makes you realise the the Americans have this "camping" business very much sorted!

We chose Road Bear. Newer RVs discreet adverts on vehicle
Not like somthing out of meet the fockers or Rv the movie

We hired an RV privately and had a great time. Just be aware of the vast size of the US. We travelled a small part of Colorado and did over 1000 miles in week. Try and find the "black canyon" at Gunnison. Awesome indeed.
Phil.
