I used to get up in the morning and make tea, go to to my favourite blogs.
Now though, I make tea and go to classifieds under Motorhome for sale.

Good luck with your search, And yes, I also reckon autumn is a good time to buy - dealers and private sellers mostly want their vans moved on before winter. (y)

My wife is worried that once we eventually purchase our MH I won't have anything to do.
Told her that once we have it we will be using it.

You'll always have something to do like adding extras and modifications to your van to make it yours.(y)(y)(y)

I bought mine 3 weeks ago I've been tinkering with it ever since, tightening screws fixing little bits here and there etc.... If your Diy minded there's always little jobs to do and after every trip there's things you want to add or alter to make it more practical.

Then when you get everything perfect you get bored and buy another one

Don't change vehicles unless I have to.
Still got motorbikes I bought in the 70's.
Once got what I want will keep it I can't travel any more.
Doing my research and hired one to improve my thought process, reading and asking questions has honed what I want. So roll on summer 2019.

Thing is I prefer to buy now and live in the moment.... 18 months is a long time and you never know what's round the corner.

Can only afford it when I retire, will also have time to use it. If I got one now would only get used once or twice a year so worth waiting.

We have taken early retirement and know exactly where you are coming from. We would love to go and buy new. We keep things we buy for ages. Both caravans we owned were 8. Retire or buy new was an easy question to answer

My position is when I retire will have enough to buy new, money from shares and 25% from an extra small pension.
Main DB pension and cash will not be effected.
At the moment don't have the holiday availability to use a MH.
Big plan is to retire at 60, summer 2019.
Doing masses of research to what I want then see what's available at that time, at the moment only one MH fits the bill, have to see what changes in the coming years.

Once you think you've found "the one" go and hire it or as close to it as you can.

There's every chance you'll discover something about it that wasn't evident from your research and find it's not "the one" after all.

If that's going to happen it's far better to discover it before you drop a wedge on buying one.

That was my thinking a couple of years ago I then saw the light and thought I best get out and live a little.
Now we have a Moho we actually get out and about more :)

Also you never know whats around the corner hence making the most of it now.
I appreciate everyone is different though :)

My dad waited and saved for retirement and unfortunately had a massive heart attack and died at 60. Then my sister in law found a lump in April and was dead by december

I never put anything off nowadays, that's why I sold the house bought the van and plan to tour Europe and hopefully find work in Spain or the canaries,...... Live now just in case I can't when older

@Jands I feel your pain..

Once I'd made my decision to retire early and collect a reduced DB pension, it was frankly painful at work and I resented every hour I spent there. I had to give 12 months notice but in the end had a sensible discussion whereby I negotiated that they wouldn't have to pay my salary for the 12 months notice period when we all knew I'd be there in body only, but instead pay me half and I'll go now..

So it might be worth a "conversation" to see how you might be able to be creative as the time between now and 2019 might not put you in a good place mentally. As @Northernraider says, you don't know what is round the corner so sometimes it's best to just go for it !

I think your typo sums up my feelings :D. I hate the search probably because almost everything we look at has a fixed bed. And l, along with the other 0.0001% of the motorhoming population, don't want one. We're now down to a short list of 1 which is an update of the one we have and only available new. So we're hoping for a Winter deal.

What's a DB Pension. SP - State Pension. PP - Private Pension FSP - Final Salary Pension.

DB is Defined Benefit, i.e. The same as what you refer to as FSP (which interestingly is a term I'd have struggled with :D)

You say tomato I say tomayto

That is me now, look at all the new ads on each site, that's my first job of the day, then if it's quiet at work I repeat it....repeat it, now I can come on here and look through everything and ask questions, i will be so prepared when we actually start to look to buy, I will forget everything :LOL::LOL:

And DC is a Defined Contribution pension. If it isn't a DB (FS) pension then it's a DC pension.

Sorry, at first glance I misread your first sentence. I thought you said tea and bogs. Now that is my routine.
