I was informed by the Bank's "Chat Bot" that I had to go into branch today, to prepare for my transaction tomorrow...

So, leathers on and into town, parked near to the usual place without thought and came out to this...

You may be able to make out the council revenue sticker on the throttle!

Didn't even think about it when I parked up, but then again, I've spent 4 years leaving it in European Citys, this was the first time in many years since I've left it in my own City...:sneaky:

Edit: To cap it off I was informed, by a human in the bank, that I didn't need to go into branch... :swear:

Cheers

Aha, that's what you get with a modern bike!
I rode my 1947 AJS into busy Brighton centre to go to a camping shop because parking is a nightmare or non-existent . As I bumped up the kerb and parked outside the shop I noticed a copper on foot about 50yds away but carried on as I couldn't do much else.
After about 10 mins I came out anxiously with new my tent poles and sure enough there he was beside my bike and uttered the expected words:......

"Is this your bike, Sir?".

"Yes, officer"

"What a lovely old thing, innit. Let's hear it".

With a silly grin on my face I gave it a big squirt, plonked across the pavement, bumped down onto the road and away.

Is the notice for parking or for entering a pedestrianised area on a motor vehicle?

The ticket says....

Contravention: C1
Parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours.

I have another 3 photo's showing that it's clearly on the pavement....?

Cheers

The street is defined as building line (or property line) to building/property line.

Trouble is now that parking enforcement has been derogated to local authorities, they are ruthless in their processing of offenders, even for one minute (generally private contracted out companies who work on commission).

Check to see if there was proper clearway/parking restriction signage in the vicinity or entering the zone.

I had a ticket for 'Parking other than In a prescribed parking space'. I actually had one wheel on the edge of the pavement, the other three were in the parking layby, the space was just a tad too short. Not blocking the pavement or causing any sort of obstruction. Some traffic wardens are just jobsworths 🤬

Put wing nuts on the number plates & remove when leaving it.Failing that leave it off altogether as it is a £60 fine reduced by 50% & carries no penalty points & in addition if stopped you have " 7 days to rectify the omission"

Thinking outside the box, I like it 🍺

Great Suggestion!!!! The "plate" is "illegal" anyway (it's tiny) so a bit of strong velcro might just be the answer.... :ROFLMAO: ;)

But but but but...it a pedestrianised street most towns and cities have done this, in the 'old days' cars, bikes, trikes etc etc would have driven up and down them, those are not cobble stones they are Marshal style bricks not normally used on ordinary roads. The question is would you have driven your MoHo and parked in that street?

Most of the towns do allow you to drive down these pedestrianised roads up to 9:00 or 10:00 am for deliveries (pick up or drop off) so if you were there at those times you may have got away with it.

Harsh comments i know....... Sorry to see you have a fixed penalty notice.

Yes, I agree, I should've know better, that was the point... I'm used to parking in European towns, cities and villages, where there seems to be a totally different attitude towards parking bikes.

Do they still call it "Tickling the Carbs".?
Old bikers and people with old bikes know what i'm on about.

Carbs? Carbs.....? What are they... :ROFLMAO: (To be fair the CB motor is still fitted with them (y))

I was parking my bike up in Dublin a few years back, on a wide central pavement - there was a bench I was going to chain it to. Up pulls a Garda car and beckons me over - "Here we go", thinks I, "you can't park it there".

Nope - just wanted to tell me to lock it up well as they've got a bike theft problem, he'd get all the passing patrols to check on it but they can't be there all the time.

I like Ireland. There was plenty of room and it wouldn't get in anyone's way.

Mind you , in fairness, I was parking my bike in Brum a few years back and a "Yellow Peril" walked by - "Don't leave it there, I'll have to give you a ticket, but put it behind that line on the pavement and you're behind the building line and I can't do anything". All said with a smile.

Erm - No. The only bikes I've come across with carb ticklers are older than me, and I'm 50!

It was a sort of primer button for fuel at the carb. My mower still has one!

All my bikes are more than 65 years old. They all have carbs which need to be tickled when starting after adjusting the ignition lever, setting the choke and before 'easing it over compression' and then giving it 'a long swinging kick'.

And doesn't it bloody hurt if they kick back as well!

Back along, (get me talking Kernow, must get back up to God's county to get my dialog back), any way, back to the plot, bikers would cover the bike including No. Plate. The jobsworths weren't allowed to move the covers.

same here. parked my scooter for 20 minutes on a wide bit of pavement that due to the topography nobody uses, got a ticket for parking in a loading area????

btw we have loading areas ( nicely paved) in our town in a residential part, nowhere near the shops which is just as well as they're on a very steep hill.

I've parked my motorcycle in the centre of Brescia all day on the pavement whilst the Mille miglia was about to start, No bother from the many police that were on duty that day, Not a jobsworth to be seen

I recall many years ago when l was selling l parked on double lines in Hull to drop some samples off, boot opened and along comes the Traffic Warden, asks how long l reply 5minutes max he’s says OK.
We had a brief chat and he said his job was to ensure nobody was causing an obstruction not to give people grief by handing out tickets.

How things and attitudes have changed,

That's a totally different set of circs. for a different reason.
In the example you have given, the rider is trying to circumvent a moving traffic offence.
I suggest that covering up a bike when it is parked is a totally normal thing to do and there is no offence committed in so doing. If the 'Authorities'? do not have the power to touch or remove the bike cover, then that is up to them.
You will know (probably) that I am playing devil's advocate here and, it is only as a result of my previous occupation that I recall such matters.

It may be on the block paving but I suspect the 'pavement' area starts on the other side of the bollards. However the little bits of yellow I can see look like no waiting and no loading and typically the restrictions apply to the pavements too. Maybe take the philosphical view about the number of times you've got away with it.
