Hi all we are motorhome newbies and about to head off to Spain for 4 weeks. So far I've bought a Camping Card ACSI subscription and app, then small payment Searchforsites and now having found a site near our friends in Hossegor I'm being asked to pay and download Camping-car park. ( Plus we have park4night, the caravan club and can check pitchup).

So... does anyone have advice on the most essential/reliable sites/platforms to use and explain why the Camping-car park platform is telling me its mandatory to buy their Pack'Priveleges for 29 Euros ( is it because I've tried to book the campsite in advance ?)

This is the one site where we actually need to be specific about where we stay to be close to our friends, the rest of the time it wont matter.

Camping Car Park - yes, it’s just because you want to book. We don’t bother with the Pack’Privileges, but we are generally in France out of peak season and avoid the most popular spots. I’d have thought that as it’ll be September by the time you’re there you’d probably be OK on the Hossegor CCP (currently showing 19 free pitches out of 83) or if not the one nearby at Seignosse has 33/110 free.). Their map suggests it’s actually behind Le Penon.

Alternatively a couple of ACSI sites in Capbreton will be reduced rates by then.

We've never had a problem getting on Camping Car Park aires without booking; we usually travel June and September.

I know your pain Clairehch ! It really depends on what kind of place you want to park up/ stay in on your trip. I mostly use P4N as reviews are usually very current - though you need to be wary of the stealth campers, the small vehicles and the whingers (though TBF they exist everywhere!). Camping Car Park is free, apart from purchasing the card - which can be done at the gate on your first site visit. Traveling out of high season I see no need to pay for their Pack Privilege booking feature. ACSI is well worth the price for the card when we want the occasional campsite facilities. Many Funsters swear by Searchforsites - but I have found the reviews way too old for making the trip in Europe, and P4N has them as well. I have found P4N less good in the UK so I use SFS for that - with a phone call to make sure they’re open.
It’s exhausting - but it’s a whole lot better than not having a clue where you can rest next! Worse still is an old book, you drive there and discover it closed 3 years ago!
Take your time and enjoy the random searches. Camping Club / CAMC are also good for UK sites (depends on your membership) but not so useful (IMO) in Europe

The Biarritz Milady aire was full when we arrived in mid April with another van at the barrier in front of us. There were, however, spaces at the Gabriel Dorzet one nearby.

That's the thing though in France isn't it that there is nearly always another airer not far away that isn't full.
