Looking for any one who has done the AP 6 Toll road between San Sebastián and Bilbao/Santander.

As we drove along it I noticed numerous signs saying this was a toll road and signs signifying the charges.

However we never came across a toll booth/barrier entering or exiting the AP-6 but did notice loads of cameras.

I’ve scoured the internet to see if there is a vignette system or if you have to pre-pay or somehow pay on the day online.

Can anyone here advise?

Thanks in advance and appreciated.

I saw a report that EU had intervened and because they(we)payed for it the tolls were not legal. Couple of years ago i think.

There is no Vignette or Prepay system in operation in Spain...the remaining Toll roads are an entry and barrier exit..
It's possible to join a motorway and pay a fixed charge per section..and also get a free passage around some Cities...whatever, these AP's are not expensive...

Thanks both.

Assume as we didn’t come across a barrier and had to pay to get on/off, so then there isn’t a toll. Just didn’t want to get home and find we were fined as we didn’t somehow pay online.

Obviously confusing as signs on the AP-6 were saying toll. However reassured that is unlikely to be the case.

Again thanks for the info and quick response.

Not sure if you mean A8. We was on this motorway last week from Bilbao to Santander and only payed about 2€ as we was coming off AP68 or entering A8. I not sure if this helps,

They're physical barriers on that bit so you would know and have paid. Some of the signage is still saying AP and toll because you will encounter some further up. The bits between Irun and border are still tolled and some other bits but as Jumar says basically buttons, now when you get to the French side.......
