To Run or Not ?

Thanks for the advice. I think i will try to run it slowly round the compound some time in the next 2 weeks. If others have the same idea it could be fun with numerous mohos doing the 200m circuit of the compound!
The motorhome compound Grand Prix, hmmm, you might be onto a winner there, a new sport has been born.

As you can tell I'm not that technical. It's a 100 ah solar panel but I'm assuming it's just wired to the leisure batteries. Would there be a good reason to do that and not to the vehicle battery as well?

Sorry Podney, should have quoted your kind response, just getting used to the etiquette of the forums.
I’m not a techie either! Just trying to be!
But some clever chap, like, maybe pappajohn might be along to advise........and he knows lots,as does. Geo and HandyAndy .........and loads of others....!

We could do to take ours out, we were planning on using it today to get shopping for my Mum, us and therefore had a reason for doing so but in the end we took the car.

Modern oils and engines don’t suffer like the earlier days. I run mine up regularly and wait for it to reach normal operating temperature on the temp gauge. It’ll help circulate the oil.

I’d do it once a week if left outside.
I think there is a bit more to it with modern diesels:

Most of the engine wear occurs while the engine is warming up.

It is all to easy to block the DPF just warming it up like this on a regular basis. They need a decent run at above 40-50mph with the engine already warm to clear it properly, otherwise it will not be able to do a regen and it will go into limp mode and require sorting out at the garage.

Modern diesels also suffer from diesel contaminating the oil. In time this will build up and gets to the point the oil warning light comes on because the oil level is too high, and again the engine will go into limp mode. As with the DPF, it needs a decent run for the oil to get hot enough for this diesel to evaporate out of the oil.

In my view, you are doing far more harm than good.

Clearly I'm not going to get up to 50mph in the storage compound ? Just have hope we have some slight relaxation on the lockdown after the first 3 weeks. Either that or take chance on a fixed penalty running up and down the A1 for half an hour.

Or just don't bother and leave the van where it is. That's what I am doing. Both batteries are staying nicely charged thanks to the solar panel.
