Ah, but how many died with covid ...i believe this is it
QUOTE!!
Twenty people lost their lives in Spain while placing their emergency triangles on the road in 2020. As of July 1st 2021, the V-16 emergency light is supported by Spain's Traffic Code, although it won't be obligatory for drivers to have one in their vehicles until January 1st 2026.
I was simply quoting a Spanish car Web site for the benefit of questions asked.Ah, but how many died with covid ...
Seriously, the statistic means nothing unless you know the details. Were they wearing high viz, were they in the roadway, were they already displaying hazard warning lights etc
I am all for increasing road safety and reducing injuries and deaths, but sometimes statistics need to be delved into.
I apologise if you think I was having a go at you, I wasn't, I was making comment about the information.I was simply quoting a Spanish car Web site for the benefit of questions asked.
So don't get why you are having a go at me over statistics you may not agree with.
How does the 'signaling the emergency services' bit work?I picked up a beacon in a Spanish Carrefour a couple of weeks ago for €10. They're cheap and easily available.
Are those the magnetic ones?Amazon product ASIN B098QXVXDC
V16 Approved
I think that still makes sense, but at least you don't have to walk 20 meters back up the road in traffic or even the dark.I'm obviously missing some part of the logic here. The idea of these beacons is that you put your hand out of the window and locate it on the roof. It replaces the idea of walking back to put out a warning triangle which is clearly dangerous. However, surely the advice is NOT to stay in your vehicle if it broken down at the side of the road, but to get away from the road and well on to a verge if possible.
We will need to carry both anyway because this only applies to Spain. The remainder of Europe will still require the triangles. The beacons are a great idea especially for motorways and other relatively straight roads. However on narrower twisting roads between hedges the triangle placed strategically before a blind bend gives some warning. I will carry both.

You are warned when you hit them. It does require that they have been placed at the correct distances though, 50m & 200m behind so as to give you time to swerve.I have always been unconvinced that the little triangles do any good as they are difficult to spot, especially at night.
Not in spain. However, surely the advice is NOT to stay in your vehicle if it broken down at the side of the road, but to get away from the road and well on to a verge if possible.
All.whether the DGT organisation is only responsible for Motorways/Main roads or for all roads.
if it says "V16 homologated" they must be compliant.Otherwise I will wait until closer to 2026 to buy fully compliant ones.
Gus, what about the geolocation and bluetooth to link to an app on your phone and contact emergency services?if it says "V16 homologated" they must be compliant.
If compliant they must have the following specifications.
- water resistant
- IP 54
- Consists of a flashing amber light beacon, with more than 2 hours of autonomy in emergency mode, and another 360 degree white light that is used as a torch and has a working time of up to 5 hours.
- Suitable for marking the location of cars and bikes in an emergency situation.
- Connects without wires or switches, it works through contact with metal.
- Uses high quality LEDs to ensure that the light is visible from 1 km away.
