Getting there!
Couple of projects completed this week …

I replaced the 6Kg gas bottles, which full, weigh about 17 Kg each, with two refillable Gaslow 2.7Kg bottles which full, weigh about 9 Kg each.. Giving a useful weight saving around 15kg,

The only gas consumption in the van is the two burner hob and the BBQ point. Heating and hot water is diesel or mains electric powered via a Trauma 6DE boiler.

The two original 6 kg bottles were bit overkill. In 45 nights of use I have only about 6 litres of gas or a 1/4 of the onboard supply.

I reckon the two tiny Gaslow bottles should be good for 80 -100 days usage. I could probably just carry one and keep an eye on the gauge to save even more weight but the van came with a rather neat Trauma auto gas bottle switch over and crash protection system, so might as well make the most of it!

I haven’t installed an external filler as I don’t think I’d ever use it enough to justify the hassle of fitting it. The bottles can be removed easily and filled at the pump. Not every where allows this but my local Gas supplier in Stockport does.

It wasn’t my intention to fit a Gaslow system, I was just going to switch to using a pair of small 907 Camping Gas Cylinders but a Funster sold me the bottles for a reasonable price and so it seemed worth doing.

I have now gained some very usable storage space for tools, cables, hoses etc.

I used some old garden plant wire shelves cut down to fit, to ensure the ventilation hole in the floor of gas locker can’t get blocked.

But …. and more importantly, Mrs Abgs reckons its much better now as the colour of the Gaslow bottles matches the colour of warning stickers on the locker door…….

I also finished my audio upgrade - I’d been waiting on the speakers for three months. I’ll post that up later.

Fine perhaps for Calor cylinders but how do you intend to fill a Gaslow one without the filling connector?

At least one of them has the fill point attached to the bottle but personally I would be tempted to have an external filler rather than having to disconnect bottles when it comes to filling.

It's a direct fill system - the filler is attached to each bottle. Can be converted to the usual external fill system.

Though I'd see how it goes - my gas consumption is tiny so not a great deal of inconvenience do fill 'em once a year. I had twin 13kg Gaslow system on previous Motorhome and that got topped up every 6 weeks or so. The external point was very necessary on that!

Yes,we bank on using 1 litre a day for fridge and gas hob, with a 13 kg you have approx 26 litres .if you use oven and heater/ shower calculate another litre a day so worst case around 13 days.
