2010 Peugeot Boxer based motorhome. Never failed an MOT yet – until now.

31st July. Took motorhome in for MOT
Failed MOT due to airbag warning light being on – everything else OK.
The garage needed to send module away for whatever it is they do to it.
New starter battery is fitted in the meantime.
Apparently they have “disposed” of the old battery already so I told them they had better knock £10 off the bill then.
13th August (yes, 2 weeks later) Module is returned to garage and refitted for further setting up.
Oh dear!...module setup wrong and has to be sent off again for sorting out.
16th August - Module is returned to garage and refitted.
Oh dear!...things still aren't quite right. Now seat belt warning light is on. Something to do with the wiring beneath the seat (maybe) they say. Unfortunately it cannot be attended to for another week (staff with the specialist knowledge on holiday).
Strange as this new fault suddenly appeared as the van had not moved more than a few metres during all this. How do they know it's a wiring fault and not another “glitch” in the software?
19th August, Got a text saying van is now ready. Apparently, the electrical contacts on the module just need a waggle....So finally have the van back complete with MOT and £943 lighter in the wallet.
Feeling Ripped-off?....Definitely.

Presumably you knew that ANY light on dashboard is an immediate failure, so why did you take it for MOT?

£934 for a module and waggle does seem rather expensive! 🤔

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
I don't think I'd be too happy to rely upon a module that began to work only after it had been waggled. Did they show you how to do it for when it needs another waggle?

It's always recommended that the starter battery is renewed at the same time. My battery was 5 years old and ran down during storage last winter.

Sorry about your delay , but for clarity did you take it for MOT knowing the airbag light was lit ?
TBH I got it past the last 3 mot's by covering the light up with black insulating tape. But this time, they wouldn't wear it.

Our airbag light came on the day I was taking the motorhome for it's MoT. On arrival told the garage to forget the MoT and use the time to try and fix the fault which they couldn't reset despite using 3 different modules.

Took motorhome away and, after checking on here, removed the airbag ECU and sent it for repair.

On return refitted and motorhome re-booked in for MoT.

Total cost was £39 for the diagnosis (same cost as the MoT), around £75 for the repair and £0 for the "retest"! Oh, and 4 packets of choccy biscuits!

Can't complain at that!(y)
