Just bought a 94 b584 with 200,000km and service history. Whenever I go for a drive in it when I come to switch the engine and ignition off there is a strange ticking noise coming from the main battery area under the bonnet. It ticks away for 2 or 3 minutes and then stops. Is this something I should get checked out? Thanks. Mike.

:welcome4: I am not a mechanic but it may just be some metal bits cooling down? Once it is cold, I would start the engine and stop it after a minute or so. Not long enough for it to get hot and see if its still ticks. Otherwise I am sure a seasoned mechanic will be around soon to offer you better advice.

Years ago we had a Nissan Primera estate which was a decent car for those days. However the din it made when cooling down after run was incredible. All manner of ticks, clicks and pops. It was, as has already been suggested merely the exhaust heat shields and manifold jackets cooling down much more quickly than the more solid chunks of metal.

I noticed a ticking under the bonnet of our 2014 Fiat 2.3 B544 the other day. I had the bonnet open as I was changing the gearbox oil. I popped inside, switched the ignition on briefly to check the mileage, switched off and went straight back outside. There was a ticking noise for about 20 seconds. I’ve never noticed it before from inside.

Thanks for the reply. The box that is ticking after turning the engine off is labelled Alarm Alarmrelais. See attached pic. Any ideas anyone?
