We’re considering installing a Thule Veloslide to take 2 e-bikes. Would like to know if anyone has experience of using this rack.

Normally the front wheel is removed and clamped with the bars transverse to the bike, whick with 800mm wide bars makes it really difficult to get out of the garage. I seem to have seen a van with the bars perpendicular to the frame, but can’t find any details.
Any help graciously received.

Neil

Do you have a door both sides of the garage or just the one? I load our mountain bikes backwards from the far side so the bars are up against the door and are then first out so not catching on anything. I don't and wouldn't use a Veloslide as it is too restrictive for us with a few bikes and a scooter I want stuff in different positions occasionally.

I have a Thule veloslide it is a great bit of kit makes taking the bikes off the rack very easy.
Just be aware it does take up a lot of space in the garage area.
Also they are very easy to install 6 bolts just make sure you check for any obstructions underneath before drilling holes.

Hi Funflair, thanks for coming back to me. We have 2 doors and if one bike is in the centre no issue, but with 2 bikes we would have to rotate the bars 90 degrees to clear the opening.
I guess we could loosen the headset, but not ideal.

Thanks Kelv. I did wonder about space.
The bikes go in now, using maxle clamps on a piece of wood and tie downs, but I have to climb inside the garage to get them out.

Our door might (most likely will) be wider than yours but I also don't ride bars 800 wide and have always cut them down, could you just turn the steering 90 deg instead of loosening the head set? I appreciate the fork clamp won't work the same so might need a bit of re-engineering.

A big garage was the first tick box for our latest van, sorry (y) could you bikes with wider bars stagger a bit and overlap? one would have to come out first though, or even "top to tail"?

Thanks, I'm doing a similar arrangement with the maxle clamps, but as the bikes weigh 23 kg it's better that they slide out for easy lifting. i think we can engineer a bracket to facilitate the turning the of bars 90 degrees. I could cut down to 780mm ;)
