I am considering an electric motor for my awning. Can anyone tell me if the awning will operate manually in case of power loss?

New vehicle with an ordered awning. The motor will be installed at the dealer before handover.

They do have a manual override, but it is not the handle which you use with the manual models, although a number of motorhomes I have owned with electric awnings still have the manual wind handle supplied which is completely useless. The manual operation for the electric motor model involves winding back in with an allen key, which would not be an easy task. I have the right size drive for my cordless drill which would make it a lot easier.
I would check which motor they intend to fit, they come in 2 models; 12 Volts and 230 Volts (would need inverter) I believe a number of issues have been reported by many owners around the capability of the 12Volt with many failures reported.

Well that perspective is certainly concerning. The motor is not cheap and I don't want to buy a headache. What problems have you heard about?

The 230v Thule awning motor is a nice shutter tube motor they can be wound in with the existing handle on the newer models if needed. The 230v models are fully remote controlled were as the 12v models are switch controlled making it awkward to put out on your own.

Edit: sorry should have read title the 5200 awning only has the 12v option ours is the 9200 I personally wouldn't bother with the 12v option.

Well it looks like I'll just have to be "cranky". Thanks everyone for not letting me make a mistake.

Just watched a video on opening and closing the 9200, it's put me off getting one as it seems a lot of work just to open but i am not used to them so maybe this is the norm. I wanted one for our motorhome but want something that had some sort of protection when the wind picks up and was electric but i think if i do get one it will be the manual one going on the video.

Yeah, I watched the video too. Pain in the a.. if you ask me and not worth the trouble. I'll just crank and have the Mrs. support it until it's extended then deploy the legs.

Where do you wind in with the handle? It’s a dummy cap with no attachment. Mines is a 2021 model and look the same as all the others I have had. Be great to know but Thule tell me it’s only Allen Key

Morelo must have fitted a older version I presume it's either 8000 or 9200 version you are on about read towards the bottom of attached. You just pull the cap off to reveal the crank connection.

He makes a right meal of it doesn't he, I just use the remote to put the awning out far enough so I can drop the legs down then hold the middle to take some of the weight and extend out fully turn the two lock keys then one press on the remote to tension really simple, the main reason we have electric awning is once we were caught in a sudden storm on lake Garda missus hung on one end me the other but couldn't let go to wind the awning in so had to hang on to it for 15min until the storm passed with electric you can still hang on and wind in at the same time 🤣
