Hi all, I've searched the threads but can't find an answer. We are reluctantly going to put our MH in secure storage but looking at the "how to fit rear bike rack" you only have to take off the end plugs and Bob's yr uncle it comes off easily ??? I assume. We have only owned our MH for a few months and wondered if they are a regularly stolen item as the are so expensive to replace and so easily removed.
Andy.

I would just round the bolts off and loctite them on if you are worried.

If you need it off an angle grinder would take seconds but would need new bolts.

Never heard of them being nicked though.

If they come off that easy, beat the crooks to it and remove it first, then store it inside the van 🤷‍♂️

Not sure the crims want the bike rack - they want what’s on them as thats much easier to sell down the pub or car boot sale

If the storage is for caravans as well as Motorhomes, wouldn’t bother about your cycle rack. If anything’s going to get stolen, it seems to be either caravan interiors (cushions etc) which are to replace well worn interior furnishings or the hitch - which can actually command a high price second hand. There’s lots of Motorhomes with cycle racks in storage and nobody has had any issues that I’m aware of.
I’d suggest removing the arms that secure the cycle and just keep the wheel tracks fitted/folded up.

You could use some security bolts that have specific heads (like used in some public places), might help a little although portable angle grinders seem to have the upper hand these days.

I took mine off a year or so ago to repair some slight damage. It took a lot of swearing and fiddling to get it off, it was really awkward to get off. I suppose it depends on the model you have. Some may be easier than others.

Thanks all for your input, when we take a look at the security setup of the storage I'll have a look at how many bike racks I can see. In past years with our caravans we have had things stolen, hitchlock covers, wheel trims and jockey wheels so I am just a bit cautious.
