Well travelled
Been away over to west coast and due back on Monday...till our little problem today.

Driving into Ullapool and heading for Tesco/lorry carpark when a nyloc nut dropped onto the dash and rolled off onto floor. Mmmm, what was that said wife ?

So, I thought, as it had dropped from near me (Driving) I would check bed, and low and behold there was a crack and the bed dropped onto the wife's head.

We had to call out breakdown people ( we use Nationwide) who were very efficient and man duly arrived to take us home to Alness. We explained what had happened, and what we thought was the problem. He checked out the bed mechanism, and had it fixed in about an hour.

The nut had come from the bed structure that's fixed onto the side of the van near the bed strut. There is a bolt with 2 brass (solid) bearings of which 1 had almost disintegrated. Quite why the nyloc nut had come off we don't know.

So we decided to come home instead, order some new bearings and fix the bed properly.

Must have seen a lot of action

I think I`ll tighten my nuts tomorrow

How's the wife's head. Lucky it wasn't your side and knocked you out while driving.

Hope you can get it sorted ok

Never known a nyloc nut just FALL off.
They are designed to remain fixed even in a vibrating environment.
Chances are it was put on finger tight during construction but never tightened.

Nyloc nuts normally drop off when the tread is not long enough to be gripped by the plastic bit at the end of the nut.
A good case for some Loctite thread seal and a locking washer in the future. Good to read you got home safely.

On my 2005 Hymer if the nylocs were fully tightened the bed wouldn't move. They rely entirely on the nylon locking function and operating the bed can cause them to undo. Loctite seems like a plan. And new nylocs.
