This is why you need an Italian tun-up…

This is interesting, I have watched the fuel consumption very depending on which gear I am in and if travelling above 60mph then 6th gear is showing most economical according to the trip computer , so I am not that this guys theory is right, I will have a play when we next go out on a decent leave of journey.

What I have difficulty in understanding is why my 9 speed Auto changes gear when it does coupled with eco mode which seems designed to keep the revs low.
Is this bloke suggesting that Fiat and other manufacturers with similar set ups have got it so wrong?
Should I abandon cruising at 97 km (60 miles) approx per hour on ECO in 9th gear?

I’m not saying to drive the vehicle on higher revs constantly, I am a diesel miser and strive for the best mpg but every other fill up once the engine is warmed up I drive for at least 20 minutes on high revs to blow the cobwebs out, plus I use Miller’s diesel additive now and again…

Right time I learnt to hold it in gear manually! I’ve just been lazy and banged it in drive.

Barring roadworks my Hobby T500 sits at 2,600 rpm for all bar about 15 miles of my journey to Newhaven i.e 70 mph .. ish!! And I am at circa 1,850 rpm at 80 kph on D roads in France.

I won't be doing any Italian tune ups in the near future based on the nonsense in that video

In my opinion diesel efficiency is in the midd torque range, 1500-2400rpm. Anything above that is unnecessary added stress and wear.
At 1500rpm town cruising, with plenty grunt, and motorway around 2200rpm
I can easily do 80kmph /50mph in 6th gear, as the revs are within torque range, at around 1800rpm.
