I’m newbie
Hi
do many funsters do mountain areas in Jan/feb, I don’t mean ski resorts as such
but places where it’s cold but sunny (snowy) for dog walking / hiking
visiting towns / villages . Staying a few days then moving on to different areas,
french camping car aires seem to have a few locations
just wondering if any body does this at this time of year,
also obviously with correct tires and chains is it fairly accessible in motorhome ?
And any recommendations for areas that some of you have actually done this type of motorhoming would be appreciated.
Afterwards I'm thinking heading down to warmer climates in Spain few weeks.
thanks
graham

Hi Graham,

Yes, we have done it for 20 years, missing the covid years though.

Lots of places, throughout Europe some with Aires. But can be limited in the winter

Spain are very few. But Places Like Sierra Nevada Have an Aire

Grimentz - Switzerland Aire £20
St. Lary Soulan - Campsite ACS £15i
Otzal Valley - Campsite £25
beitostolen - Norway - Campsite (little sun mind) £45

Just to name a few. There are 1000's of places

Been to Grimentz in the summer, it's a lovely area. I can well imagine it's lovely in winter even if you don't ski. Snow shoes might be sensible or at least gaiters.

We've just spent 3 nights at Velez Rubio, one of the first white villages of Andalucia after leaving Murcia. Velez Blanco, higher up the hill is a lovely village with a nice castle and the Cueva de los Letreros, with a cave painting that has become the emblem of Almeria.

We've been on a mountain ride today. Beautiful mountain scenery. We've parked at the free motorhome area and had some very quiet nights.

A few photos of today's scenery.

Thanks again you been very helpful,
I’m Very keen on Switzerland never been but looks great , I’ve look into what requirements are for Switzerland driving wise etc,
and will suit our dog as she struggled a bit in the heat , so colder mountains area will be good for her maybe not us though
😬,
Thanks again to you and everyone for your replys

The castle at Velez Blanco.
Lovely area, I used to live in Santa Maria de Nieva just down the road and often went up there for a day out.

Hi.
NOW i remember it opened in " March..." ..many years ago C/van days and it had a rider in the old CMHC club book " Outfits over " X "" Not allowed...... I had heard how good it was so i rang the site from the UK as i had a big twin wheeler Gin Palace, the owner said then " DON'T follow the first signs, keep going along the road your on and you will come to a sign..Coaches Lac D'Estaing... we have had artics delivering static c/vans coming to the site.......COME ON DOWN.(y) and we did.....LOVED IT. Best of luck with your travels...Enjoy.
