Hi All, New to this forum as we are swapping van from our Frankia and are looking at a LHD Hymer B 678.

I'm trying to understand what I'm getting. I think it a European spec because it is described as a B 678 (No PL,DL,CL, SL etc) and has a 3.0 Auto engine on an Al-Ko/Ducati chassis. The "first registration" was Dated 2016 but the UK IAC was issued in May 2017 on a 66 plate

How do I find out what the base spec is ?

The van is "on its way to the dealers" so I can't view it yet...

Does anyone here know anything about the "imported to the UK models" and how they are spec'd ?

Are their any "known issues" I should check for on the van when we get to see it?

We have a LHD 2018 Hymer B678 DL imported ourselves which is dynamic line and a bit narrower than a B678 however but has an AL-KO chassis we like the layout and has plenty of storage with a large garage and great payload👍😊
the main issue we had was with the Headlight wiring harness being crap and failing however we have a member on the forum that can make a better quality harness a lot cheaper.😊

and Why not buy in Portugal & save yourself the nightmare of importing & the cost? it won't be cheap
Your last few words sum it up - it won't be cheap plus availability of the models - there are only two hymer dealers in Pt (well one actually) and they don't have stock. We hope to move there next year and can import one MoHo "without tax" once we get our residency.

OldCodger I’ve got a copy of the 2015-16 Hymer Catalogue which will show you exactly what was standard and what extras were available. If you PM me your contact details I can email a copy to you.

Thank you. This is on an Al-KO chassis but is allegedly 3.0l how do you tell the difference between the various models ? DL, CL, PL etc - it is bewildering

I get why people change motorhomes, hell I think of it everyday!! Layout, age, circumstantial change, retiring, upsizing, downsizing, keeping up with the jones’s etc etc, BUT why are you swapping a Frankia for a Hymer?? Sorry to all you Hymer owners but I’m sorry I was curious.

Good luck with the new van, whatever you get👍👍

Left Hand Drive, Not so tall (under 3m) so cheaper on the French motorways, lighter - looks less like a truck when in towns with 3.5t weight limits!

It is in Classified

That's a lovely van, but way ,way out of my expectations and affordability.
Unless of course you do finance on a 50 year payback or need a cabin boy on your trip to Portugal.
I can work my passage as payment!
( NOW there's a novelty!)
Ooooh Err Matron :whatthe:

B Class in Hymer talk for an A Class van.

DL is the B Class Dynamic Line only made for about 2½ years from 2016 we have a B678DL. First model Hymer produced with internal aluminium walls & narrower at 2.21 m.

PL is a Premiere Line B Class, B class with a few options as standard.

SL is a Supreme Line B Class the posh one.

Starline are Merc based.

CL is classic line the basic version doesn't have a double floor.

Some that are just called B Class are on a Fiat chassis without a double floor, depends on the year.

That's just a few of them.

Thanks Lenny. This is the B Class without any suffix, Interestingly the van i am considering has floor storage lockers - does that mean it has a double floor ?? As i said, totally confused.com

It may have storage boxes in the floor even it it doesn't have an Al-Ko chassis with a double floor.
That year it could be a Fiat not Al-Ko chassis. Can't tell without looking.

What I don't understand is why anyone would want to change a Frankia for a Hymer.

I think I have 2016 price list but I'm in Spain at the moment.

Size and LHD. We haven’t found any smaller LHD Frankia’s I’m more interested in why you think Hymer aren’t as good?

Another Funster sent me the price list, but thank you.

On our third Hymer OK for a mid range van, Frankia tend to be a bit more market.
All three Hymers have had some corrosion problems. Ground clearance often poor with tanks and storage boxes through the floor below chassis height.
We have a Carthago on order.

SMC Offered us that! It’s over priced and far too red!
They do offer a choice of leather colour!

You need a Carthago chic c line LHD 3.0L with Auto, levellers and rear air and lots of other goodies👍
Trouble is they’re like hens teeth🤷‍♂️😤😤

A bit red other than that a nice van.
And above 3m in height which is problem for the ferries and the French tolls.

Oh, and transfers bed. Deal breaker fir Mrs C

Over 3m on Brittany ferries moves you up a price band
